NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: During the latest episode of 'The View', co-host Whoopi Goldberg highlighted the absence of abortion within the Ten Commandments and contended that it cannot be simply equated with the commandment "Thou shalt not kill."

The panel was engaged in a discussion concerning former President Trump's recent statements on abortion, which he conveyed through social media earlier in the day.

Trump explicitly endorsed in vitro fertilization (IVF) and underscored his stance that states should be empowered to establish their own abortion regulations, with allowances for instances of rape, incest, and maternal jeopardy.

"No one is obligated to have an abortion. You never have to have one, and I hope no one ever has to have one," Goldberg stated.

She continued, "I want to make sure that if you decide this is what you need to do, I’m going to get behind you because I don’t know your life, and if you say this is what you need, that’s what I’m going to do."

"It’s you, your doctor, and God. That’s who you have to be conversational to, and it’s not mentioned in the big ten, I’m just going to say," Goldberg affirmed, referencing the Ten Commandments.

Sunny Hostin said evangelical Christians would argue the 'thou shalt not kill' commandment applies to abortion as well (@TheView/YouTube)

Sunny Hostin concurred, acknowledging that evangelical Christians might interpret it as "thou shalt not kill."

"I think ‘thou shall not kill’ cannot be used as the block because we allow wars all the time," Goldberg remarked.

"So there is some conversation to be had there, so either thou shall not kill for everybody, and everything, or we have to talk about all the things you and I have to do," Goldberg continued.

Trump advocates for state-based abortion legislation

On April 8, Trump stated that abortion legislation should be decided by individual states.

"The states will determine by vote, or legislation, or perhaps both, and whatever they decide must be the law of the land – in this case, the law of the state," Trump expressed in a video shared on social media. "Many states will be different. Many states will have a different number of weeks…at the end of the day it is all about the will of the people."

Co-host Joy Behar then drew attention to immigrants flooding various US cities.

"They're worried about immigrants coming into these cities. Wait until these women start going into cities that allow abortion. It’s going to be flooded with women, watch," Behar said, as co-host Sara Haines clarified, "You mean when they relocate."

"If they can even get out of their state - because these women don't even have money to leave Texas or whatever to come to New York," she added.

Hostin, who personally opposes abortion but does not advocate for its abolition as a matter of policy, pointed out the existence of the death penalty and said, "We allow guns."

Netizens slam Goldberg's remarks

Goldberg faced a barrage of backlash on social media, with users condemning her statements.

One user wrote, "She’s definitely never read the 10 commandants then."

Another said, "She must have skipped over the 6th commandment.."

A viewer noted, "She forgot about that pesky “Thou shalt not kill” commandment."

"Who is actually taking advice from this person," one tweet read.

"God doesn't approve so it is just you and your doctor," another comment read.

"Having done a couple of movies where you played a nun, it didn't brush you up on the ten commandments?" one user tweeted.
