MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE: In a tragic turn of events, Anthony "Big Jook" Mims, the older brother of renowned rapper Yo Gotti, was reportedly fatally shot on Saturday, January 13 near Winchester Road in Memphis, shortly after he had attended a local funeral service, as per TMZ.

Multiple sources confirmed that Big Jook fell victim to a shooting incident near a restaurant on Winchester Road. Upon arrival, the police found him and another individual critically injured from apparent gunshot wounds.

Tragically, he was declared dead at the scene, while the other victim remains in serious condition, as per Action News 5. Images and videos are currently being shared online, allegedly showing him after the shooting with bystanders trying to assist him.

Big Jook, who was notably close to his brother, Yo Gotti, appears to have had official ties with the latter's label, Collective Music Group, according to TMZ.

He was reportedly involved in promoting artists under the label and often appeared in their music videos, suggesting his role was primarily business-oriented.

It remains uncertain whether Yo Gotti was present during the incident that led to Big Jook's death, and he has yet to publicly address his brother's murder.

The tragedy of his death is further compounded by the fact that it allegedly occurred during a period of mourning - a sentiment he expressed in one of his last Instagram stories on Saturday, where he was paying tribute to a deceased relative.

Rumors link Big Jook's shooting and Young Dolph's murder

Adding another layer to the tragic event is the speculation circulating online that Big Jook's shooting might be connected to the 2021 murder of Memphis rapper Adolph Robert Thornton Jr aka Young Dolph.

As reported by TMZ, law enforcement officials were quickly dispatched to Yo Gotti's restaurant following the shooting of the young rapper outside a cookie store, due to concerns of potential retaliation.

The feud between Young Dolph and Yo Gotti was well-known, leading many to speculate a possible connection, claimed the outlet.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), ex-Shelby County Commissioner Tami Sawyer stated, "Whew. Not a good look y’all. And he was leaving a funeral. Not a good look at all. So sorry for Gotti and his family. So sorry for all the families caught up in this violent cycle."
