MOUNT HOREB, WISCONSIN: Prosecutors announced on Saturday, May 4, that the 14-year-old student, who was armed and involved in the Wisconsin school shooting, was fatally shot earlier this week.

Before the student could enter the middle school, he had aimed his pellet gun at law enforcement officers.

The unidentified student was seen outside Mount Horeb Middle School on Wednesday, May 1, with a Ruger.177 caliber pellet rifle, according to the state Department of Justice.

Did anyone else get injured in the Wisconsin school shooting incident?

Nobody else sustained any injuries. In accordance with agency policy, the involved Mount Horeb police officers were placed on administrative leave.

The department released a statement saying, “Officers directed the subject to drop the weapon, but the subject did not comply.”

It further added, “The subject pointed the weapon at the officers, after which law enforcement discharged their firearms, striking the subject. Lifesaving measures were deployed but the subject died on scene.”

The prosecutor's Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into the shooting, the New York Post reported.

Around 11:15 am, a 911 caller reported seeing a suspicious person approaching the middle school while brandishing a long gun, the prosecutors said.

This prompted police to rush to the scene. The gunman is described as a teenage male by the authorities, but they have not released his name.

Although the potential shooter was unable to enter the school, the horrific event forced the young students to run for their lives; some of them even managed to escape on inline skates.

Student reported hearing gunfire during in-line skating

Terrified parents claimed that their children cowered in closets, afraid to use their phones for texting or making phone calls.

Max Kelly, a 12-year-old middle school student, reported that his class was practicing in-line skating in the school gym when they heard gunfire.

After his teacher ordered the class to leave the building, they skated to a street, left the skates behind, and sprinted to a gas station and convenience store, where they hid in the restroom.

About 7,600 people live in Mount Horeb, which is roughly 25 miles west of Madison, the state capital, and is also home to the headquarters of the outerwear company Duluth Trading Company.
