WASHINGTON, DC: Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell stated on Wednesday, April 3, that he 'expects' Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to put a motion on the table to try Alejandro Mayorkas, the Secretary of Homeland Security, for impeachment the following week, according to the New York Post.

During a Shelbyville press conference, McConnell informed the Kentucky Lantern, "Schumer will be able to file a motion to dismiss or table. I expect he will do that. And the Democrats have a majority, so it may not go on very long. But my preference would be to actually have a trial. But I think the majority is likely to prevent that."

Notably, regarding President Biden's troubled border enforcement czar's prospective trial date, Schumer has remained mum, pledging only to swear in jurors once the two articles of impeachment are presented on April 10.

A simple majority of the Democrat-controlled upper chamber is required to approve a motion to table or dismiss the articles made by any US senator acting as a juror after they are sworn in.

Additionally, Schumer declared that the "only reason for this impeachment is for Speaker Johnson to further appease Donald Trump" and described the effort to remove Mayorkas from office as a "new low for House Republicans."

Moreover, to hear arguments in support of impeaching the Cabinet official for neglecting to enforce immigration law and misleading Congress about how 'secure' the US border is, Mike Johnson has urged the Democratic leader to convene a 'public trial' of Mayorkas.

Johnson stated, "Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has violated the public trust and willfully refused to follow federal immigration laws. He deserves to be impeached and the American people demand that those responsible for the border crisis be held accountable."

He further added, "If he cares about the Constitution and ending the devastation caused by Biden’s border catastrophe, Senator Schumer will quickly schedule a full public trial and hear the arguments put forth by our impeachment managers."

Notably, Secretary of War William Belknap, who left his position in 1876 before the House could vote on five charges about his corruption, was the last member of the Cabinet to be impeached. In the Senate, he was found not guilty months later.

Internet rips Mitch McConnell for his statement

Several internet users took a jibe at Mitch McConnell as he said that he 'expects' Chuck Schumer to put a motion on the table to try Alejandro Mayorkas for impeachment the following week.

A user wrote on X, "Why? Is he their HR manager too...?" while one added, "Fire them." A user also wrote, "I thought he passed away."

A person also stated, "After trump, Mitch is the next worst person in the country," whereas one mentioned, "pretty apathetic language."

A user also wrote, "120 years old and still babbling," while one stated, "Sham trial. Fook that. No trial at all. Sc*** the Republicans."

"McConnell’s treachery is very real and sadly between he and his loyal, ever panting lapdogs at his feet, we are doomed Trump or No Trump ! Boo Hiss !" declared one user.
