NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: House Speaker Mike Johnson took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to show solidarity with Israel as it faced airstrikes by Iran on Saturday, April 13.

He also held the Biden Administration's recent criticism of the ally state and its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war as a contributing factor behind the terrible development.

The remarks referred to Biden calling Netanyahu’s handling of the war a mistake earlier this week and calling for an immediate ceasefire and more supply of humanitarian aid to Gaza, reported The Washington Times.

Iran's attack on Israel

According to CBS News, Iran launched more than 200 missiles and drones toward Israel on Saturday evening. It is considered to be in retaliation for an airstrike on an Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, on April 1 that resulted in the death of seven members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

According to Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Daniel Hagari, the vast majority of the missiles were intercepted outside Israeli territory by their aerial defense systems. US air defense systems in the Middle East also intercepted some Iranian drones, two US officials corroborated.

However, it was indicated that an unknown number of missiles reached their target, and at least one child was reportedly wounded in the attack.

Speaker Mike Johnson's tweet

Johnson shared his statement over X, writing, "As Israel faces this vicious attack from Iran, America must show our full resolve to stand with our critical ally. The world must be assured: Israel is not alone."

"I will continue to engage with the White House to insist upon a proper response. The Biden Administration’s undermining of Israel and appeasement of Iran have contributed to these terrible developments," he added.

Internet reacts to Speaker Mike Johnson's tweet

Netizens called out the Speaker over his statement, as the following tweets demonstrate.

"It's actually quite impressive how they undermine the Biden administration every step of the way and still manage to pin this one on Biden. This same guy is still sitting on a Senate-passed security bill that supports Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan in their fight for sovereignty," wrote a user.

"Knock it off blaming Biden. He hasn’t appeased Iran at all and you know it. This is not the time nor the place for childish behavior that always comes from House Republicans. Be a grown up and actually act like a leader for once," stated another.

"Basically, it's your fault - blocking military aid for Ukraine and Israel emboldened dictatorships around the globe. You made this happen and only you," slammed a third.

"Your words are entirely hollow," jibed a fourth.

"You have done zilch - Please proceed kowtowing to trump -You are a disgrace," commented a fifth.
