NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: President Joe Biden has announced that the United States would stand strong in support of Israel as the country faced a missile and drone attack by Iran on Saturday, April 13.

The US President also monitored Iran's aerial attack with his national security team at the White House.

According to CBS News, over 200 missiles and drones were launched, a majority of which were reportedly intercepted. US forces in the region aided the IDF in shooting down some of the incoming drones, two US officials and a US defense official corroborated.

The airstrike is in retaliation to Israel's April 1 attack on an Iranian consular building in Damascus, Syria, that resulted in the death of 12 people, including two senior Iranian generals in the Revolutionary Guard’s elite Quds Force, reported AP News.

Joe Biden meets national security team after Iran attacks Israel

Joe Biden cut short a weekend stay at his Delaware beach house and returned to the White House on Saturday to meet his national security team when Iran's attack seemed imminent.

He reportedly returned to Washington minutes before Israeli officials confirmed that they had detected drones being launched toward their territory from Iran.

The White House stated that the President convened a principals meeting of the National Security Council in the Situation Room to discuss and monitor the unfolding situation. Later in the evening, Biden spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

President Joe Biden slammed for backing Israel

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Biden shared a photo of him with the national security team in the White House Situation Room and captioned it, "I just met with my national security team for an update on Iran’s attacks against Israel. Our commitment to Israel’s security against threats from Iran and its proxies is ironclad."

However, netizens were not supportive of the proclamation as they slammed the President for remaining silent during "Israel's attacks on Iran, Palestine, Gaza, and Rafah."

"Why do all US, world leaders and politicians emphasise “standing with Israel" instead of advocating for "world peace"? They remained silent during Israel's attacks on Iran, Palestine, Gaza, and Rafah, including the attack on the Iranian embassy," a social media user said.

"Quick question, who bombed the Iranian embassy in Damascus in breach of International law and how is the ‘rules-based International order’ going to sanction the culprit?" asked another.

"Idiots who have no idea what they're doing. Led by a senile puppet president who can't even muster the words to address the nation," one person said.

"Biden we don’t care about Israel let’s sit this one out," another individual wrote.

"The world does not need a regional war. Nor do we need world war 3. Control Israel. Make them stop escalating tensions. NO WARS FOR ISRAEL!" demanded one person.

"You have led us to this point by fully embracing Israel's genocide in Gaza and giving them the green light to attack Iran," one individual said.
