OMAHA, NEBRASKA: Former President Joe Biden is not staying silent about President Donald Trump. In a recent speech, he sharply criticized the POTUS, saying that Trump has “taken a wrecking ball” to democracy and questioned his leadership.

He also voiced his opinion about the demolition of the East Wing.

While speaking at the Ben Nelson Gala, Biden did not hold back his words. He said that Trump’s actions “embarrass” the nation. Making another sharp comment, Biden said, “You work for us, Mr President, we don't work for you.”

The former president said, “I knew Trump was going to taking a wrecking ball to the country, but I had no idea, I have to admit, I didn’t know there was going to be an actual wrecking ball." He was pointing to Trump’s plan to turn the East Wing into a grand ballroom. Biden added, “It’s a perfect symbol of his presidency."

Biden’s comments come at a time when the nation is facing the longest government shutdown in history. He continued criticizing his successor. Biden said, “Trump has taken a wrecking ball not only to the people’s house but to the Constitution, to the rule of law, to our very democracy. Who in the hell does he think he is?”

He also mocked Trump’s claim that the country is in “a golden age.” Biden said, “He now says we are quote ‘in a golden age.’ The only gold is the stuff he’s hanging on the mantle,” referring to Trump’s gold-colored decorations in the Oval Office.

Biden then addressed Trump directly. He said, “You act in a way that embarrasses us as a nation, quite frankly.” He also added, “You work for us, not just billionaires and millionaires,” before ending with, “I’m angry.”

He later moved on to the recent November election. Biden said, “I know this nation. I know the American people. And here’s what I know: No one, no one, not even the president, can destroy our democracy if we stand together and fight for it.”

For those unfamiliar, the president is building a major new ballroom at the White House, on the site where the East Wing once stood. The ballroom is expected to cover around 90,000 square feet and will be large enough to host up to 999 guests for events.

The project is reportedly privately funded by Trump and donors. Construction officially began in September 2025, with plans to complete it “well before” the end of Trump’s next term in January 2029.

The new ballroom will be located adjacent to the White House’s main residence and connected via a “glass bridge,” with architecture designed to match the building’s neoclassical style.
