10 celebrities who fearlessly stood up for their partners

10 celebs who waged online battles for their partners

Social media users who go trolling cross the fine boundary between public and private space, defaming or otherwise attacking celebrities because they happen to not agree with the public figure's behavior, whether they relate to ideas, actions, goals, or life in general. While this takes a toll on the stars themselves, it also affects their partners, even if the majority of them ignore it and carry on with their lives. But some choose to respond, shaming such trolls. Selena Gomez, for instance, has been defending her guy, slamming those who believe that her relationship with Benny Blanco is not the correct decision, as per TMZ. In response to queries from social media users on her relationship with the music producer, the singer/actress has been saying, "He is my absolute everything in my heart." Here are a few instances where our favorite stars defended their relationships on social media by confronting trolls.
Michelle Obama and Barack Obama

There was a dispute in Barack Obama's re-election that attracted a lot of negative attention. While many were disappointed with his performance, Michelle told NewsOne in a roundtable interview that the debate didn't affect them because of a demonstration that was held the next day. "There was a 35,000-person rally in Madison, Wisconsin. So what we always see is there's sort of the scrum [drama] and then there's what's happening in the world," Michelle remarked at the time. "You have 35,000 people [who]…feel so passionate about this race that they want to make sure that they are engaged."
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
In an appearance at the 2015 BET Honors, Kanye West abruptly ended the show to dispel the notion that his then-wife, Kim Kardashian West, got married for financial gain. Kanye said at the time: "At the barbershop I used to hear people always talking about, ‘Man you know when an entertainer get on, of course you know he gon’ go and get a white girl and blah blah blah and a white girl gon’ get a rich black dude.’ But I wanna say that my wife has dated broke black dudes. It got nothing to do with the money," as per PEOPLE.
Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler

One person who doesn't tolerate insults to her spouse is Kristin Cavallari. When the reality TV personality posted a picture of herself and her spouse Jay Cutler on vacation, fans went crazy about Cutler's "dad bod." One commentator asked, "WTF did he eat himself?" In the nicest manner possible, Kristin replied, sharing another Instagram photo of Cutler along with the statement: "Since Jay looked like a 300-pound lesbian in my last post, I felt I should do him justice by posting him looking hot AF in this one."
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen

Twitter/X trolls criticized Chrissy Teigen's parenting skills and labeled the model irresponsible when she and her spouse went out to dinner soon after the model gave birth to their daughter Luna in April 2016. "Funny there's no dad-shaming," said Legend on Twitter, clearly not buying it. "When both of us go out to dinner, shame both of us so Chrissy doesn't have to take it all. We'll split it."
Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes
In 2015, Eva Mendes joked about divorce to a group of women while advertising her beauty brand. Mendes stated at the time: "You can't do sweatpants. Ladies, number one cause of divorce in America, sweatpants, no!" Gosling immediately came to Twitter to defend her after people were offended by her statement. The actor wrote at the time: "Obviously sweatpants thing was a joke. Wearing them now. That's right, tweeting in sweatpants. Rats! Said too much! You win again Twitter."
Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston
Jennifer Aniston penned a personal piece about the issues of paparazzi culture and the Huffington Post in 2017. Later on, Aniston's then-husband Justin Theroux complimented her candor in an interview with 'Men's Health.' He told 'Men's Health' at the time: "I was very proud of what she wrote." He continued by remarking on how much attention his wife's stomach—and nonexistent baby bump—gets. He told the magazine, "At some point it becomes bullying."
Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady
Many people held Tom Brady responsible for the Patriots' 2012 Super Bowl defeat. His then-wife Bundchen, however, defended him by disparaging the Patriots' receivers. Bundchen remarked at the time: "My husband cannot f**king throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can't believe they dropped the ball so many times."
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
Fans were shocked to hear that once America's most beloved couple - Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston - were divorcing. Many held Jolie responsible for the divorce, casting her as the "home wrecker." In a later interview with 'W' magazine, Pitt defended Jolie, claiming that they were never involved in an extramarital affair but got together when they were both single. "What people don't understand is that we filmed [Mr. & Mrs. Smith] for a year," Pitt explained. "We were still filming after Jen and I split up. Even then it doesn't mean that there was some kind of dastardly affair. There wasn't. I'm very proud of the way that it was handled. It was respectful."
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner
There were rumors about how much Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck would reveal to the media following their split. Affleck enthusiastically backed Garner's decision to be candid in her interview with Vanity Fair regarding their split. Affleck told The New York Times at the time: "She felt like she wanted to discuss it and get it out there and get it over with so she could say, 'Look, I already talked about it – I don't want to do it again'. It's fine. She's allowed to talk about it."
Jason Sudeikis and Olivia Wilde
In 2014, Olivia Wilde made waves when she breastfed her son Otis while posing for Glamour magazine. Some people found this to be disrespectful and inappropriate. Defending his then-wife, Sudeikis told Access Hollywood: "That was great. That's a working mom. [It was] not planned. He was there, and he did a little pop in visit to see mom and duty called."
