It turns out that there are a lot of risks associated with performing live, particularly for musicians who deal with a bunch of stage productions. Many performers have sadly suffered injuries while performing live, ranging from pyrotechnic incidents to overly enthusiastic spectators. These performers undoubtedly worried their fans, even if they have all luckily recovered from their on-stage mishaps. See below about the fate of these musicians.
1. Bebe Rexha
An audience member hurled a cell phone at Bebe Rexha as she was performing at a recent tour stop in New York City. Bebe was seen on camera dropping to her knees and clutching her head during the incident. After the show ended, she was taken to the hospital and had three stitches done.
2. Lady Gaga
During a performance in New Zealand in 2012, Lady Gaga was accidentally struck in the head with a metal prop. Gaga immediately left the stage to examine her injury; she returned and apologized, and admitted that she had hit her head and might have had a concussion. She resumed the show and performed 16 more songs despite the injury.
3. Pink
A failed on-stage stunt occurred when Pink was touring Germany in 2010. She smashed into a barricade after tumbling out of the harness that was meant to lift her over the crowd. The device pulled her up and pushed her into the barricade before she was completely strapped in. Pink told the audience as she abruptly ended her performance, "I possibly broke something," per Rolling Stone.
4. Post Malone
During a performance in 2022, Post Malone accidentally stumbled into a hole intended to lower his guitar on stage. He was carried off stage by medics after lying on the ground for a short while, telling the audience that he needed "three or four minutes" to tend to his health. Fortunately, there were no major injuries to him, and he was able to go back on stage.
5. Ava Max
Recently, Ava Max was attacked while doing a concert in Los Angeles. A man stormed onto the stage in the middle of the performance, and while he was being hauled out by security, he smacked the singer. TMZ claimed that the man was attempting to "hold her" and not hurt her. Ava tweeted after the show, stating, "He slapped me so hard that he scratched the inside of my eye. He’s never coming to a show again."
6. Enrique Iglesias
Enrique Iglesias was performing in Tijuana, Mexico in 2015 when he ended up getting into a drone mishap. Enrique reached for a flying camera drone during the performance in an attempt to record the audience, but he accidentally grasped the wrong part of the device, severely injuring his hand and fingers. Despite wrapping his hand in a bleeding T-shirt, he managed to wrap up the show.
7. Dave Grohl
Dave Grohl accidentally fell off the stage at a Foo Fighters concert in Sweden in 2015. Instantly recognizing there was a problem, Dave was able to inform the crowd that he had suffered a leg fracture. He discovered that his ankle was dislocated, and he went back to the stage after having it realigned. Seated with his leg raised and his ankle restrained by a paramedic, Dave completed the rest of the performance.
8. Lil Durk
In 2022, Lil Durk sustained injuries in a terrifying incident at Lollapalooza as pyrotechnic effects burst on his face. The rapper carried on with the act despite the dire circumstances but subsequently decided to take a break from touring in order to heal from the injury, per Billboard. He later shared a picture of himself with a mask and a big eye patch on Instagram, providing followers with an update.
9. Kelsea Ballerini
Kelsea Ballerini was recently in danger while performing in Boise, Idaho. The singer was taken aback as something flew into her eye. After leaving the stage, Kelsea came back to tell the crowd to stop hurling objects. She posted on social media the next day to reassure people that she was well but "someone threw a bracelet, it hit me in the eye, and it more so just scared me than hurt me."
10. Patti Smith
Patti Smith was "spinning like a dervish" when she fell offstage 14 feet to land on concrete. "It was a bad fall. I fractured my skull, several vertebrae in my neck, my back, my tailbone," she recounted the mishap. "I broke some teeth. It was serious. And I still have certain repercussions — I never got my full eyesight back. I don’t have the range of movement that I used to."
