10 dragons and their riders from 'House of the Dragon': From Aemond's Vhagar to Rhaenys' Meleys
10 dragons and their riders from the 'House of the Dragon'
'House of the Dragons', as its name suggests, is indeed home to some of the most beautiful mythical creatures fantasy television has ever seen. Apart from working as their riders's mount, these firebreathing giants play a decisive role in the fate of Westeros. As the Targaryen civil war in the 'House of the Dragon' is beginning, let's have a look at the magnificent creatures who appear on the show along with their riders.
1. Syrax - Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen
Named after a Valyrian goddess, Syrax is Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen's faithful mount. While Syrax is not yet as battle-hardened as the other beasts, the 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 would offer plenty of opportunities for Syrax to practice airfare, per The Escapist.
2. Caraxes - Prince Daemon Targaryen
Daemon Targaryen's enormous mount (though not the largest in the show), is Caraxes. The battle-hardened dragon is as temperamental as its rider and is nicknamed 'The Blood Wyrm' owing to his crimson coat.
3. Vhagar - Prince Aemond Targaryen
Vhagar is the dragon of Prince Aemond Targaryen. The gigantic dragon has the capability of changing the fate of her rider at any moment. Vhagar is not only the oldest but also the largest dragon in the show and was a part of King Aegon I's fleet when he took over Westeros over a hundred years before the events shown in the series.
4. Meleys - Princess Rhaenys Targaryen
Princess Rhaenys Targaryen is the rider of a mount that is as regal as her rider. While Rhaenys is the 'Queen Who Never Was', her mount is titled the 'The Red Queen' because of her crown of horns and red scales. Meleys is known for her swiftness and was once the fastest in all of Westeros.
5. Sunfyre - King Aegon II Targaryen
'Sunfyre the Golden', the mount of King Aegon II is as regal as his owner. However, the magnificent dragon has had little action in the previous seasons owing to the Small Council's advice to keep the king safe.
6. Dreamfyre - Queen Helaena Targaryen
Similar to Sunfyre, Dreamfyre too had been kept on the sidelines following her fiery introduction in Season 1. While Helaena keeps to herself mostly in the Red Keep, Sunfyre too stays close to her rider.
7. Moondancer - Lady Baela Targaryen
Baela Targaryen's dragon Moondancer is yet to make a proper entrance in the 'House of the Dragons'. However, Moondancer is expected to appear on screen in the second season. The light-green scaled Moondancer, while smaller in size, is expected to be more nimble.
8. Vermax - Prince Jacaerys Velaryon
Like his rider, Vermax is still a young mount. The green-scaled dragon, who hatched in the first season, became the mount of Prince Jacaerys Velaryon. The relatively younger dragon is expected to make a lot of noise in the second season.
9. Arrax - Prince Lucerys Velaryon
Lucerys, like his rider, Prince Lucerys Velaryon, met with a tragic demise at the end of 'House of the Dragon' Season 1. The young prince and his equally young mount didn't stand a chance against the massive Vhagar and Prince Aemond.
10. Seasmoke - Ser Laenor Velaryon
Seasmoke, the mount of Ser Laenor Velaryon appeared in just three episodes of the first season but left an everlasting impact on the show's trajectory. Seasmoke played an important role in the season's final battle, the Siege of Bloodstone.
