Royal duties come with some grave responsibilities and even graver demeanors - or, at least, we used to think so until the British royal family changed our complete perception. While their duties call for utmost sincerity, there is no harm done in having a little fun! Isn't it? In the wake of Prince William and the royal children's viral selfie with Taylor Swift from her London Eras Tour concert, here are 10 such moments where the royals absolutely stole the show by letting themselves loose from the usual seriousness. 

1. Princess Diana ran barefoot in a Mother's race in 1991

Princess Diana was always there for her sons and even showed her competitive side when she partook in a Mother's race at Prince Harry's school's annual sports day on June 11, 1991, in London. She ran barefoot and unfortunately lost the race. Between 1988 and 1991, the doting mother took part in multiple parent races during annual field days at Prince William and Prince Harry's prep school, Wetherby School.

2. Prince Harry shares an adorable interaction with a little girl at the 2017 Invictus Games

Even before Prince Harry became a father to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, he knew how to connect with children. In 2017, the Duke of Sussex garnered the attention of royal fans when he shared an adorable moment with the two-year-old Emily Henson at the Sitting Volleyball Finals during the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto, Canada. As the toddler helped herself from Harry's popcorn bucket, he made a playful shocking face, which resulted in a series of adorable photos. 

3. Queen Elizabeth cuts cake with a ceremonial sword at the 2021 G7 summit

There's no doubt that Queen Elizabeth II was the fountainhead of all humors running in the royal family. The late queen once considered cutting a cake with a ceremonial sword to the delight of Camilla and Kate Middleton. The royal trio was at the Big Lunch during the 2021 G7 summit in Cornwall, where the queen was tasked with cutting a cake to celebrate the occasion. Per Hello! Magazine, an aide soon informed the matriarch that a conventional knife was available, leading the late queen to use the longer blade. "I know there is, this is more unusual," quipped the monarch before using the sword to cut the pastry.

Prince William, Prince Harry, and Kate Middleton had a magical day out while touring the Warner Bros Studios Leavesden at its launch on April 26, 2013. The Duke of Sussex lived up to his fictional namesake and raised a magical wand in the Diagon Alley, just like Harry Potter. Prince William and Kate also looked mystified as they maneuvered the wand while touring the venue.

Prince William's friendship with Taylor Swift started at this very event at Kensington Palace in November 2013. During the Centrepoint Gala Dinner, the prince took part in an impromptu performance with Jon Bon Jovi and the 'Cruel Summer'.

6. Princess Charlotte sticks out her tongue at the inaugural King's Cup Regatta

In 2019, Princess Charlotte was photographed making a funny face at her grandfather Michael Middleton. As Prince William and Kate Middleton participated in the inaugural King's Cup Regatta, they engaged in some fun activities with their young ones. At that time, Charlotte was seen sticking out her tongue at her grandfather who was sitting there in the audience.

7. Kate Middleton's impromptu dance with Paddington Bear

One would expect the royals to be adept at dancing, especially when it's ballroom dancing. But Kate defied all notions when she happily danced with the Paddington Bear on the platform of Paddington rail station in 2017. As the mascot politely asked the princess for a dance, the mother-of-three obliged and performed a happy little dance with the Paddington Bear during the Charities Forum event. 

8. Savannah Philipps disciplines Prince George during the 2018 Trooping the Colour

The 2024 Trooping the Colour was dotted with many heart-warming interactions between Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, especially when she disciplined her little brother. Notably, his elder brother, Prince George, and Savannah Phillips, the eldest granddaughter of Anne, Princess Royal, shared a similar moment during the 2018 Trooping the Colour flypast on the Buckingham Palace balcony. Savannah was spotted trying to stop George from singing by putting her hand over his mouth.

Prince William, the heir to the British throne, and his wife, Kate Middleton, shared an endearing moment at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. While attending a swimming event, the prince seemed to get overheated as he used his partner's ID card to fan himself to get some relief from the sweltering July heat of Glasgow. 

10. Prince William attends Taylor Swift's first London Eras Tour concert with his two eldest children

Prince William attended Swift's first London Eras Tour concert to celebrate his 42nd birthday and was apparently seen grooving to the singer's hit tune 'Shake It Off'. Later, he even posed for a backstage selfie with his two eldest children, Princess Charlotte and Prince George, and the pop star.
