Usually, we associate Hollywood with glitz and glamour. However, sometimes behind all the shiny facade lies the dark world of drugs and felony charges. While Hollywood stars are mostly known for their remarkable roles in the entertainment genre, they sometimes end up behind bars for crimes ranging from DUI, possession of drugs to rape and murder.
Bill Cosby
Comedian Bill Cosby, 86, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2018 after he was found guilty of drugging and sexually assaulting a woman named Andrea Constand in 2004. Even though 60 other women came forward to share their experience of getting assaulted by Cosby, the conviction was overturned in 2021 and Cosby was released from prison. After his release, he tweeted, “I have never changed my stance nor my story. I have always maintained my innocence,” as per CNN.
Abby Lee Miller
'Dance Moms' star Abby Lee Miller was indicted in 2015 for concealing income and making fraudulent bankruptcy declaration before getting sentenced in May 2017 for one year and one day in federal prison, which was to be followed by two years of supervised release. However, her sentence was cut short when she was diagnosed with spinal cancer in May 2018 and had to undergo emergency surgery and chemotherapy, as per PEOPLE.
Mark Wahlberg
Mark Wahlberg was arrested for assault and battery of a man named Johnny Trinh in 1988 when he was just 16 years old. Since he was a minor, he was sentenced to 45 days in prison. Walberg met the victim 26 years after the incident to apologize followed by Trinh forgiving him, as per Daily Mail.
Felicity Huffman
Felicity Huffman served two days less than a two-week prison sentence for paying $15,000 to have a proctor correct her daughter's SAT scores. After the 'Real Housewives' star was found guilty of the Varsity Blues scandal, she was ordered two weeks in prison, a $30,000 fine, 250 hours of community service, and a year’s probation, per PBS News Hour. At the sentencing, Huffman apologized tearfully, saying, “I was frightened. I was stupid, and I was so wrong.”
Robert Downey Jr
Marvel superstar Robert Downey Jr was sentenced to three years in prison for possession of heroin, cocaine, and an unloaded .357-caliber Magnum in 1999. Phil Spector
Music producer Phil Spector was sentenced to 19 years in prison for the second-degree murder of actress Lana Clarkson in 2003. Spector died of cancer at the age of 78 in 2021 in the middle of his prison sentence.
Martha Stewart
Martha Stewart was sentenced to Federal Prison Camp in October 2004 for lying about her stock sales. Stewart was released five months after in March 2005.
