POTTERVILLE, MICHIGAN: Former president Donald Trump sparked discussions across political and cultural spheres by alleegdly playing Dolly Parton's iconic song 'Jolene' during his rally in Potterville, Michigan, on August 29, Thursday.

The selection of music swiftly captured the public's attention, sparking a flurry of memes on social media.

'Jolene', released in 1973, is famous for its heartfelt lyrics, which depict a woman's plea to another not to take away her partner. The melancholic tone and emotional appeal presented a stark contrast to the typically high-energy, assertive ambiance of Trump rallies.

Internet flooded with memes after Donald Trump uses Dolly Parton's 'Jolene' at rally

Attendees at Donald Trump's Potterville rally were reportedly stunned when Dolly Parton's 'Jolene' started playing. Former professional basketball player Rex Chapman quickly tweeted about it.

"Trump used Dolly Parton's 'Jolene' at his Michigan rally today. We ride at dawn," he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Soon X was filled with funny reactions to 'Jolene' being reportedly used during Trump's rally. But Parton's heartbreak song being played at the rally has not been confirmed. The reactions are basically based on what Rex Chapman had tweeted.

1. 'From rooster to hen'

One tweet had an image of a blonde woman warning a man, accompanied by a caption speculating on Dolly Parton's reaction to Trump using her song, "Dolly Parton: I'm only saying this once, you weird orange crook. You play Jolene ONE MORE TIME.

The text on the image read, "And I'm gonna change you from a rooster to a hen with one shot!"

2. Dolly Parton gesturing 'No'

Another shared a GIF of Parton gesturing with her finger and saying 'No'. The caption read, "Trump is using Dolly Parton’s Jolene at his rallies."

3. 'Oh hell naw'

The third commentator posted a GIF of Parton turning around, lip-syncing "What," with the caption, "oh hell naw."

4. 'He'll never learn'

ABBA recently asked Trump to cease the use of their music in his presidential campaign following the unauthorized use of their song at a recent rally.

Referring to ABBA, a person shared a hilarious GIF of a woman using a rope in the same manner cowboys do for wrangling and capturing livestock, "Trump getting letters from ABBA & Jack White today. Tomorrow he needs to worry about Dolly Parton. He’ll never learn. #Jolene #DollyParton."

5. 'No one messes with Dolly Parton'

Others chimed in, commenting, "No one messes with my @DollyParton or her music! Fascists not allowed! (But really....Jolene? About a cheating man. They really are just trolling him or confessing to everything.)", accompanied by a GIF that read, "WE RIDE AT DAWN."

6. 'Don't mess'

A fan of Parton warned, "You don’t mess with Dolly."

7. Cease and desist

"Hopefully Dolly sends a cease and desist order to Donald soon," one said.

8. Mishearing 'Jolene' as 'Jailing'

An X user mocked Trump saying, "He must’ve misheard it as “Jai-Jai-JAILIIIING”"

Donald Trump campaign faces backlash for unauthorized use of music

Donald Trump has also used songs by other artists at his rallies without obtaining their permission. A representative for ABBA informed CNN that the Trump campaign neither sought nor received consent from the band or their record label, Universal Music.

In a statement to CNN, a representative for the band stated, “ABBA has recently discovered the unauthorized use of their music and videos at a Trump event through videos that appeared online. As a result, ABBA and its representative has promptly requested the removal and deletion of such content. No request has been received; therefore, no permission or license has been granted.”

But a Trump official claimed, “The campaign had a license to play ABBA music through our agreement with BMI and ASCAP."

The rock band Foo Fighters has also stated that they did not give authorization for the Trump campaign to use their song 'My Hero' at a rally in Arizona, as previously reported.

Trump’s campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung told CNN they did “have a license to play the song".

A spokesperson for the Foo Fighters delivered a similar statement when approached for comments by Consequence, “Foo Fighters were not asked permission, and if they were they would not have granted it."
