9 celebrities who want Joe Biden to exit 2024 race: From George Clooney to Abigail Disney
Celebs who said it’s time for Joe Biden to drop out: From Michael Douglas to Stephen King
Following the shaky debate in June, President Joe Biden lost support from prominent Hollywood celebrities who now demand the octagenarian's exit from his reelection bid. Many came forward, raising concerns about the incumbent's cognitive capacity to be in office for one more term if he beats Donald Trump in November. Some, like George Clooney, even withdrew backing after being a part of Biden's fundraiser events. Here is a list of Hollywood celebrities who now want the President to drop out of the 2024 race.
1. George Clooney
Weeks after headlining a major fundraiser for Biden, Clooney shifted his stance and demanded Biden suspend the 2024 campaign. In a recent op-ed for The New York Times, the 'Gravity' actor claimed that the Biden he witnessed during the fundraiser differed from the previous years. "It's devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fundraiser was not the Joe 'big f**king deal' Biden of 2010. He wasn't even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate," Clooney wrote. He added that age was the issue with the President and urged for his exit, warning Democrats that they would lose in November otherwise.
2. Michael Douglas
Michael Douglas sided with Clooney despite his support to the President. In his recent appearance on 'The View,' the 'Wall Street' actor said Clooney had a "valid point." He added, "This is such a tough one. I adore the guy [Biden]. Fifty years of public service. A wonderful guy. This just happens to be one of these elections that is just so crucial. ... I don't necessarily worry today or tomorrow, but a year down the line, I worry. I am concerned." Douglas also criticized Biden's team for not preparing him well for the presidential debate.
3. Michael Moore
Director Michael Moore accused Biden's campaign team of "elder abuse" in his podcast on Rumble. He criticized the team for keeping the 81-year-old in the race after he flunked the debate in June. "If I have to be the only one to stand up for Joe Biden here, to protect him from the cruelest form of elder abuse I've ever been forced to watch, well then that's what I'll do," said the 'Fahrenheit 9/11' creator. Moore also directed Biden to undergo a medical examination and "do the right thing" based on that.
4. Rob Reiner
Rob Reiner, a prominent donor to the Biden-Harris campaign, joined his Hollywood fraternity calling for Biden to step down around a week after hosting a fundraiser for Vice President Kamala Harris. "It's time to stop f**king around. If the Convicted Felon wins, we lose our Democracy," the actor wrote on X (formerly Twitter), referring to Trump's hush money conviction. "Joe Biden has effectively served US with honor, decency, and dignity. It's time for Joe Biden to step down," Reiner added.
5. Stephen King
Author Stephen King, whose books were adapted into movies like 'The Shining', urged Biden to drop out in an X post. "Joe Biden has been a fine president, but it's time for him... in the interests of the America he so clearly loves... to announce he will not run for re-election," said the author.
6. John Cusack
John Cusack echoed Democratic Hollywood figures who withdrew support from Biden. In response to Reiner's remarks, the '2012' star wrote on X, "Joe Biden has been a fine president, but it's time for him—in the interests of the America he so clearly loves—to announce he will not run for re-election."
7. Abigail Disney
Disney heiress Abigail Disney was among the first to demand Biden's exit after his pathetic debate performance. Speaking to CNBC last week, she threatened to stop contributions to the Democratic Party unless and until the President was replaced from grabbing the ticket. "This is realism, not disrespect. Biden is a good man and has served his country admirably, but the stakes are far too high," Abigail told the outlet. She further warned with absolute certainty that Democrats would lose the election if Biden continued the race, which would result in "genuinely dire" consequences.
8. Reed Hastings
In a recent email to The New York Times, Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings also called for the octogenarian's exit from the presidential race. "Biden needs to step aside to allow a vigorous Democratic leader to beat Trump and keep us safe and prosperous," he demanded.
9. Damon Lindelof
'Lost' co-creator Damon Lindelof urged Biden to step down and Democrats to wake up, in his op-ed on Deadline. "I believe in Joe Biden. I believe in him so much that we wrote him a sizable check as recently as two weeks ago," the Emmy-winning screenwriter remarked. He added the President's debate performance was "disappointing, upsetting, terrifying" in many ways. "A rising tide lifts all boats. A falling Biden sinks them," Lindelof wrote.
