Kate, who has kept herself out of the public eye since her “planned abdominal” surgery in January 2024, was subject to wild speculations about her health and whereabouts in the recent weeks.

Recently, on Friday, in the emotional video message, Kate spoke about getting a cancer diagnosis and shared that she was undergoing preventive chemotherapy. She also assured her fans and well wishers that she was getting better.

Kate Middleton’s friend opens up about her speech

A friend of the princess recently opened up about the emotional address that Kate made to the world. Talking about the speech that was recorded in the garden of Windsor on Wednesday, March 20, the confidante shared that Kate had written it.

The friend shared, “It wasn't really about the drama of the last few weeks, though obviously that has been upsetting. She felt she had to do it because of who she is.”

They explained, “It was more that she knows she is a public figure and has a wider leadership responsibility," and added, “It was all her, she wrote every word of it, it came together very quickly.”

The source added pointedly that the future queen made the address to the public who did not subscribe to the wild gossip and conspiracy theory about her whereabouts.

They further added that Kate was in favor of sharing the message through a video rather than opting for formal written communication.

The Princess of Wales shared in the speech, "I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you, personally, for all the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding whilst I have been recovering from surgery," and added, "It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful."

She continued, "In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present."

"My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment. This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family."

"As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment," shared the mother-of-three, per Town and Country Magazine.

Speaking of her young family, she added, "But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok. As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits."

Following the announcement, the Internet was flooded with 'get well soon' wishes for the princess. On Saturday, the Prince and Princess of Wales thanked the public for their overwhelming support following the announcement per Daily Mail.

A spokesperson for the Kensington Palace shared on Saturday, "The prince and princess are both enormously touched by the kind messages from people here in the UK, across the Commonwealth and around the world in response to Her Royal Highness."

The message continued, "They are extremely moved by the public's warmth and support and are grateful for the understanding of their request for privacy at this time."

Fans shower support on Princess of Wales

As the news went viral that Princess of Wales wrote her speech herself, readers commented online to praise her resilience and grace with which she conducted herself at the face of adversity.

One of the fans said, "I have a feeling she may have not felt well for some time but kept silent about it. Some fairly recent photos of her thru the holidays seemed off. At least now she will rest and be provided with the care she needs and deserves."

Someone else certified, "Kate is a class act. We see it more and more all the time. There have been different Royal Family members who have hardly conducted themselves in a manner that you would expect them to, but Kate always seems to carry herself with dignity and grace. She has been, and continues to be in many ways, an absolute asset to the family she happened to marry into. William chose very well."

"It was clear that her speech was from the heart. She looked pale and vulnerable. That's why it was heartfelt and genuine. Whether you're a royalist or not, her sincerity is heartbreaking," said another social media user.

Another person chimed in, "Of course she wrote it herself. A graduate of, at the time of her graduation, the 4th best university in the country, and always a very pleasant student whilst at StA. Of course she wrote it herself rather than leaving it to some under-educated also ran."

Someone else noted, "I also wonder if it was done due to the breach of her medical records and for them to get ahead of it and protect their kids.."

"Felt like it was written by Catherine herself and furthermore, it was delivered with the dignity befitting a true Princess," said someone else.

"A class act. In a league of her own. Truly deserving of her title, Princess Kate. Prayers from across the World. You got this Kate!!"

"It was perfect. Delivered in perfect speech, with perfect tone, with a perfect finish. The best and most important speech she has ever made. She is a class above.  Nobody will ever touch that," said someone else.
