WESTCHESTER, NEW YORK: Lara Trump, the newly elected co-chair of the Republican National Committee, found herself at the center of online criticism this week after making a head-scratching claim about the number of states in the United States.

During an interview on the conservative network Newsmax, Lara asserted that the RNC had filed lawsuits in a staggering "81 states" across the country – a geographic impossibility, given that the US consists of just 50 states, as per OK! Magazine.

The incident took place during an interview on Tuesday, April 23, with Newsmax host Eric Bolling. Lara, who is married to Eric Trump, the son of former President Donald Trump, was discussing the RNC's initiatives aimed at addressing perceived voter fraud and safeguarding election integrity.

"We have lawsuits in 81 states right now," Trump told Bolling, seemingly unaware of her geographical mistake. A video snippet capturing Lara's apparent mistake during the interview gained widespread attention on X (formerly Twitter).

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel couldn't resist taking a jab, quipping, "Not just Tennessee, eleven-essee, twelve-essee. West Dakota, South Virginia. Indiana, Out-diana, you name it, they're suing."

Lara has encountered criticism previously for her remarks. In April, during an appearance on Newsmax, she reiterated that no other president has endured the same degree of mistreatment as Donald Trump.

In a recent occurrence, she addressed accusations regarding her intelligence during an episode of her podcast, 'The Right View with Lara Trump.'

"Nothing stupid over here, I've done my research," Lara asserted in response.

Lara assumed her position as RNC co-chair in March, alongside Michael Whatley, the former chair of the North Carolina GOP. Donald Trump publicly endorsed Lara for the role in February, praising her as a highly skilled communicator who aligns with the principles of MAGA.

Internet wastes no time in poking fun at Lara Trump's geographical blunder

The internet wasted no time in poking fun at Lara's geographical blunder. One user on X remarked, "81 states. Not the brightest bulb in the room." Another user quipped, "It's a given that only a really stupid woman would think Eric Trump was a catch."

A user mentioned, "The whole family is so sad. She obviously missed her history class in school." Meanwhile, another user commented, "Lara Trump: the human train wreck."

A user sarcastically wrote, "This is why Lara Trump was made head of the RNC; her awesome grasp of the critical details."

A user also pointed out, "when you get your RNC job based on nepotism instead of actual intelligence and qualifications lol." [sic]

Another critic suggested, "Someone really needs to go back to 4th-grade social studies…."

Lastly, a user stated, "RNC Chairwomen thinks our country has 81 States. A real mental giant, that one."
