'A really big misquoted thing': Doja Cat denies claim that she 'hates her fans'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Doja Cat has addressed her alleged remarks that she refused to tell her fans that she loved them, saying that at the time her words were misinterpreted.
The 'Agora Hills rapper had an intimate conversation with Apple Music's Ebro Darden, released on Thursday, December 14, where the rapper explores allegations that she despises her loyal fans, dubbed as "Kittenz."
Doja lost over 250,000 fans in July when she declined to tell her followers on social media that she loved them, saying, "I don’t though cuz i don’t even know yall," in response to a fan who asked for the verbal affirmation, as per Page Six.
Doja Cat says she was 'misquoted'
Setting the record right, the 28-year-old songstress stated in the Apple Music interview with Ebro, "One thing that I do want to set straight is that you'll never see a direct quote of me saying, 'I hate my fans.' Not once."
She doubled down on her vehement denial of the rumor, admitting, "But it’s a really big misquoted thing where everybody is saying, ‘she hates her fans’ – never said that."
The 'Paint the Town Red' hitmaker dismissed the rumors, laughing it off as people not getting her sense of humor.
"It’s definitely something, and I know that people who get it, get it, and I’m fine with that."
She refused to back down, though, saying that her true followers don't need an explanation from her.
"I don’t need to have to explain my sense of humor or explain comedy to anyone," Doja continued.
She added, "If people don’t see the joke, then they just don’t see the joke. It’s not my responsibility to have them understand."
Doja Cat's hate for her fans gained attention after social media attack
It was claimed in July that the Grammy winner said, "I don't though cuz I don't know y'all," in response to a Threads user asking her to tell her fans, "I love you."
Moreover, she criticized her followers for taking on the name "Kittenz," labeling them as "creepy," and advising them to "get a job," as per PEOPLE.
In response to someone else accusing her of being rude to those who helped her succeed, Doja added, "Nobody forced you [to support me] idk why you’re talking to me like you’re my mother … you sound like a crazy person."
Since then, the 'Kiss Me More' singer maintains that a lot of people mistakenly believe that she just told her fans that she doesn't like them.

The Grammy winner caused a stir earlier when she appeared to make fun of fans for purchasing her first two albums, referring to them as "cash-grabs."
In an August interview with Harper's Bazaar, she speculated that when she does something unexpected, fans become indignant because they feel as though they somehow own her.
Doja noted at the time, "My theory is that if someone has never met me in real life, then, subconsciously, I’m not real to them."
"So when people become engaged with someone they don’t even know on the internet, they kind of take ownership over that person."
Doja added, "And when that person changes drastically, there is a shock response that is almost uncontrollable… I’ve accepted that that’s what happens."
