LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Abigail Spencer is standing by her best friend Meghan Markle amid ongoing backlash.

The 'This Is Where I Leave You' star supported her longtime friend and former 'Suits' co-star during an interview with Page Six at an American Heart Association event in New York City on Thursday, January 30.

Abigail Spencer, 43, admitted it is difficult to see negative press about Meghan Markle, also 43, following a Vanity Fair article that described the Duchess of Sussex as "cold and withholding" and alleged she created a "really awful" workplace.

"Meghan would become cold and withholding toward the person she perceived to be responsible," the publication reported. 

It was “really, really, really awful. Very painful. Because she’s constantly playing checkers," the source said.

"It’s very painful as a friend," Spencer told Page Six, adding "But she is the most glorious human being on the planet, and so we just have to get behind her and support her."

The 'Rectify' alum expressed excitement for Meghan Markle's upcoming Netflix lifestyle series 'With Love, Meghan' which premieres on March 4.



 

"What I love about it is, you know, Meghan is one of my best friends, and I feel like the whole world is going to see, like, an authentic, very cool, very lovely insight into who she actually is as a person," said Spencer.

She also hinted that viewers will gain knowledge from the series, saying, "You’re also going to learn a lot! I’ve learned a lot from her myself."

When asked what Meghan Markle had taught her, Abigail Spencer laughed and shared a personal moment from the show.

"Oh my God, I don’t know how to cook," she confessed, adding "You’ll see on the show, she teaches me."

The series, shot in Montecito, California, was initially set to premiere on January 15 but was postponed due to the Los Angeles wildfires. Markle’s return to Instagram on January 1 coincided with the show's upcoming release.

Her first post featured a video of her on a beach near her Montecito home, shot by her husband Prince Harry. In the clip, she writes '2025' in the sand before running off camera. Insiders recently told the Daily Mail that the series is undergoing re-editing.

On January 15, Markle expressed gratitude to Netflix for delaying the launch, saying, "I’m thankful to my partners at Netflix for supporting me in delaying the launch, as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California."
