Adrien Brody blasted for 'disgusting' act toward GF Georgina Chapman before accepting Best Actor Oscar

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Adrien Brody earned the ire of netizens for throwing a chewed gum at his longtime girlfriend, Georgina Chapman, right before getting on stage at the 97th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 2, as per the Daily Mail.

The 51-year-old star bagged the Best Actor award for his performance in the film 'The Brutalist' at the event. On his way to the stage, Brody turned around, took a gum out of his mouth, and threw it toward Chapman, who rushed forward to catch it. 

The 48-year-old fashion designer was previously married to the disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

Adrien Brody went on to deliver his speech for his second Oscar win moments about hurling the chewed gum at his girlfriend. 

He said in his speech, "Winning an award like this signifies a destination and something my character references in the film." In the Brady Corbet-directed period drama, Brody plays Laszlo Toth, a Hungarian-Jewish architect and Holocaust survivor who immigrates to the US to rebuild his life. 

"But to me, it also, beyond the pinnacle of a career, it is a chance to begin again and the opportunity to hopefully be fortunate enough so that the next 20 years of my life, I can prove that I am worthy of such meaningful, important and relevant roles," the actor added. 

He went on to thank Chapman and her two children, India, 14, and Dashiell, 11, whom she shares with Weinstein, saying, "I know it’s been a rollercoaster. Thank you for accepting me into your life."

Brody bested his fellow nominees Timothee Chalamet, Colman Domingo, Sebastian Stan, and Ralph Fiennes, to win the award this year. He won his first Oscar for Best Actor in 2003 for the Holocaust drama 'The Pianist'.

Netizens were furious over Adrien Brody tossing the gum toward Georgina Chapman at the Dolby Theater on the Oscars night.

One wrote, "Disgusting. He could have swallowed the gum," and another said, "I’d be a lot more impressed with Adrian Brody’s speech if I just hadn’t seen him throw his gum at the Academy Awards."

A person stated, "No shade but adrien throwing that gum at his wife was so tacky and gross," while someone else expressed, "GUM??? THAT’S WHAT ADRIEN BRODY F**KING THREW AT HIS GF AT THE OSCARS?? HE COULDN’T SWALLOW THAT S**T WTF????"
