Adrien Brody's best actor award celebration turns into tears amid devastating California wildfires

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Adrien Brody's award moment at the New York Film Critics Circle 2025 Awards took a heartfelt turn as he delivered an emotional speech.

The event, held on Wednesday, January 8, saw Brody accept the Best Actor Award for his role in 'The Brutalist.'

However, the devastating wildfires raging across Pasadena California weighed heavily on his mind, turning the celebration somber.

Adrien Brody reflects on 'heavy day' during acceptance speech

This latest honor followed Adrein Brody’s Golden Globe win on Sunday, January 5. 'The Pianist' actor took the opportunity to speak about the ongoing tragedy which has forced over 100,000 people to evacuate and claimed at least five lives.

During his speech, Brody shared the emotional impact of receiving such a prestigious accolade amidst crisis.

"I would be remiss to not mention the weight of what's on all of our minds and in our hearts tonight," Brody said.



 

"It's been a heavy day for me. It's always hard to accept something like this when there's so much suffering in the world," he said, his voice choking. 

"My heart goes out to all the families and the animals and our colleagues," he added, as per USA Today. His remarks reflected his deep concern for the community affected by the fires.

Adrien Brody honors first responders

Adrein Brody also took a moment to commend the bravery of those on the front lines battling the infernos.

"This is our community. I just want to thank and commend the bravery of the first responders, and the sacrifices and their meaningful work that deserves our recognition tonight," he said.

"My thoughts are with everyone affected by this horrific event," Brody said.

The actor’s film 'The Brutalist' received the award for Best Movie, marking another major win for the three-and-a-half hour epic after its Golden Globes success.

Internet calls Adrien Brody a 'class act' and 'beyond decent' human being

Adrein Brody’s heartfelt reaction sparked admiration from online users. "Such a class act & beyond decent human being ❤️," wrote one user on Instagram.

Another commented, "Adrien Brody…always human, thoughtful, sincere, and passionate. You are a wonderful human being! I love you so much! ♥️🙏🏽."

"What a beautiful soul ♥️," added another. "Finally a speech I can stand behind," a user shared.

The wildfires across Southern California have left a trail of destruction, damaging thousands of structures. The catastrophe has resulted in at least five fatalities so far.
