While discussing generational differences, Roker turned to Melvin with a curious expression and asked, "So what are you? Are you a Millennial?"

Craig responded, "No! I’m Gen X." When Craig turned the question around and asked, "So, what about you?", the longtime weather anchor didn’t hesitate. "Uh, old," Roker replied, instantly sending the studio into fits of laughter.

Craig, born on May 20, 1979, falls squarely within Generation X, just missing the Millennial cutoff by a year. Meanwhile, Al, born on August 20, 1954, belongs to the Baby Boomer generation, a group that shaped modern society in profound ways.

Breaking down the generations

Generations are typically categorized by birth years.

1. Baby Boomers (1946-1964): Born during the post-World War II baby boom, this group grew up in an era of economic expansion and social change.

2. Generation X (1965-1979): Sometimes called the “Latchkey Generation,” Gen Xers came of age during a time of shifting family dynamics and rapid technological advancements.

3. Millennials (1980-1994): Often associated with digital innovation, social media, and shifting workplace values.

4. Generation Z (1995-2012): The first true digital natives, raised in a hyper-connected world.

5. Generation Alpha (2013-2025): The youngest and most tech-savvy generation, growing up in an AI-driven era.
