During the show, Ritchson opened up about writing a heartfelt letter addressed to Cruise, expressing his appreciation for the groundwork laid by him in the 'Jack Reacher' franchise.

He emphasized the significance of the 'Mission Impossible' actor's portrayal, despite some criticism that it didn't align aesthetically with the character described in the books.

Ritchson admitted, "Yes, I wrote him a heartfelt letter because here's the thing, people. I know what you know... he's taken some criticism for the role because it doesn't aesthetically fit the role of Reacher perfectly according to the books."

He continued, "Okay, that's not... this guy still did two movies that grossed over $300 million and doesn't even fit exact... like, that's huge."

Alan Ritchson's efforts to share gratitude met with obstacles

Despite his desire to convey his appreciation and seek Cruise's blessing for taking on the role of Jack Reacher, Ritchson's letter reportedly never reached the 'Top Gun' actor.

"I said it in my heart, and I said it on the paper, and yet the paper never got to Tom," expressed Ritchson, reflecting on the missed opportunity to directly convey his sentiments.

Nevertheless, he took a moment during the show to acknowledge Cruise publicly.

Ritchson stated, "Tom, you want me to tee it up for you, Tom? Tom! Alan needs to talk to you, Tom. I just have something to say real quick."

He continued, "Okay, I know we've had our moments, right? Um, I'm super grateful for you passing the baton to me on Reacher and, uh, helping it become what it's become with the eyes that you brought to the show. So, I just want you to know that was some version of my letter."

In addition to discussing his transition into the role of Jack Reacher, Ritchson also humorously recalled his past experience as a contestant on 'American Idol'.

He shared amusing incidents, including being asked to push a model into a pool for a show segment, highlighting the fun atmosphere during the competition.

Furthermore, Ritchson expressed his willingness to extend his talents beyond acting, notably mentioning his readiness to write a song for Cruise if given the opportunity.
