LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Authorities have disclosed that Keisha Nash's cause of death was alcoholic liver disease. The ex-wife of actor Forest Whitaker died on December 6, 2023.

According to a report from TMZ, which obtained her death certificate, it is mentioned that Nash had been grappling with the disease for "years."

The document also lists acute renal failure as another significant condition contributing to her untimely death.

Other details revealed by the official death certificate

The document further indicates that Nash's daughter with Whitaker, True, served as the informant for her mother's death. The former model was laid to rest in a service held in Los Angeles on December 20.

True confirmed his mother's death through an Instagram Story on December 7, expressing his emotions with the message, "Goodbye mommy. I love you 4ever and beyond."

"The most beautiful woman in the world ... thank you for teaching me every single thing I know. I'll see you in my dreams and I'll feel you in my heart."

True's parents, Forest Whitaker and Keisha Nash, first crossed paths on the set of the 1994 film 'Blown Away,' where she portrayed the girlfriend of his character, as reported by CBS News.

Whitaker proposed the following year, and the couple tied the knot in 1996 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Together, they also had a daughter named Sonnet, who is now 27 years old.

Whitaker initiated the divorce process from Nash, concluding their 22-year marriage, in December 2018. In his petition, the actor cited irreconcilable differences as the reason, according to documents obtained by People

The former model ran a luxury cosmetic line

In a 2008 interview with O, The Oprah Magazine, she shared, "When my kids were younger, I attempted to launch a children's clothing line. However, establishing a new business requires a significant commitment, and at that time, my primary focus was on being a mother."

This refers to her venture, Kissable Couture, a luxury cosmetic line.

In an earlier conversation, Forest described Whitaker as "much stronger" when it came to handling kids, reports MEAWW.

Meanwhile, Whitaker remarked, "I always have to take a pause when they come and say, ‘Hey Dad, is it okay if we do this?’ So I just look at them like, ‘Have you talked to your mom about that?’ They know I’m the easy one."

Whitaker graduated from Lynn Classical High School in Lynn, Massachusetts. The actress and model was "swept off her feet" as she witnessed Forest winning an Oscar in 1997.
