Alex Cooper explains why she chose to interview Kamala Harris after 'zoom call' with Donald Trump's team
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Podcast host and media personality Alex Cooper recently disclosed her reasons for selecting Vice President Kamala Harris for an interview instead of Donald Trump after having a zoom call with the president-elect.
On Wednesday, December 4, at The New York Times' DealBook Summit, Alex Cooper, the host of the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast, discussed her political outreach in a way that resonated with her audience.
Alex Cooper confronts her fear of politics
Initially hesitant to engage in politics, Alex Cooper acknowledged her fear but later revised her stance, recognizing the existence of "larger conversations" that had implications for her audience.
“I didn’t want to technically get into politics,” she said. During the discussion, Cooper admitted to the points being raised. “But I recognized there was a larger conversation that was directly impacting my audience,” she added.
She disclosed that in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election, the teams of both Trump and Harris contacted her. “We had a zoom call with Trump’s team,” she shared. “I wasn’t on it. I was like, ‘Let me know how it goes.’”
The idea of featuring Harris on her show was intriguing because “I’m a very competitive person,” Cooper said, and she thought, “How do we keep ramping this s**t up?”
She added, "Joe Rogan has a conversation. He knows his audience. I know my audience, and it’s a bunch of women looking for someone to advocate for them every single day.”
Alex Cooper chooses to interview Kamala Harris
Ultimately, Alex Cooper chose to interview Kamala Harris. The episode, broadcasted in October, tackled crucial topics including women's rights, the reversal of Roe v Wade, and the limitations on abortion.
“I understand people are like, ‘Oh God, you’re gonna focus the whole time on abortion.’ Yeah, I am. Because it’s not about abortion, it’s about women’s rights to their body,” she said, adding “I thought, ‘Why not have on someone that could potentially have a huge impact on our country?’”
Cooper shared her initial hesitation to engage in political discourse but ultimately decided that discussing women's rights was a subject she was passionate about and felt qualified to address.
“The conversation I know I’m qualified to have is the one surrounding women’s bodies and how we are treated and valued in this country,” she said.
“If Trump was willing to have a meaningful, in-depth conversation about women’s rights in this country, he would be welcome on 'Call Her Daddy' anytime,” she concluded.
