SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA: Reports state that a man turned himself in at a South Miami-Dade police station after killing his girlfriend and driving around town with her body inside a car.
Police found the woman's body still inside the car when Alexander Roque pulled up to Florida City's city hall at 404 W Palm Dr. Just after 9:45 am on Sunday, April 21, Roque, 48, was booked, according to jail records.
Alexander Roque charged with second-degree murder
Roque has currently been charged with second-degree murder. Miami-Dade police, who are in charge of Florida City murder investigations, stated that they were unable to confirm the woman's cause or manner of death.
According to jail records, Roque is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
On Wednesday, April 17, shortly before 8 pm, Roque was seen knocking on her door via a neighbor's shared doorbell video.
The neighbor informed NBC6 that Roque arrived off-camera to warn her that he would be playing loud music. Despite finding it strange, she expressed gratitude for the notification.
According to Jose Rodriguez, Roque's other neighbor, Roque moved into a house in Florida City roughly two years ago. Roque lost a loved one not long after moving, and he started to isolate himself.
Rodriguez mentioned that his door had four locks and that he had black-tinted all of the windows to keep out prying eyes.
Both of the neighbors said they were unaware of Roque's girlfriend and expressed shock over the reported killing. The victim's identity is unknown to the police. Miami-Dade Police, according to Florida City Commissioner Walter Thompson, is spearheading the investigation.
Derrick Bargman-Williams is also accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend
Another Florida man Derrick Bargman-Williams is also accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend and trying to escape from their home while carrying a gun.
The incident occurred after an argument between Bargman-Williams and his pregnant girlfriend, Jessica Frankel Singleton.
The children, aged 4 and 1, witnessed the traumatic event. Bargman-Williams was arrested for allegedly violating a no-contact order in 2019 and later for assaulting Singleton.
The Broward State Attorney's Office dropped the domestic violence case as the victim chose not to cooperate.
Prosecutor Stefanie Newman emphasized that victims of intimate partner violence are often fearful about reporting allegations of abuse, and that national statistics indicate that victims of intimate partner violence will suffer abuse approximately eight times before they are willing to report the abuse.
