NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez faced backlash online after she blamed the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) for Democrats’ Election Day losses in her social media post.

On X (formerly Twitter), The NY representative shared a comment from Bernie Sanders' adviser Jeremy Slevin, who noted that Democrats needed to have a reckoning over their ties to corporate and industry lobbies, reported the New York Post

"Weird to have a whole discourse about “special interest groups” that completely leaves out corporate and industry lobbies—by far the most influential “groups” in the Democratic Party," Slevin tweeted.

AOC claims pro-Israel lobby sank Democrats in 2024 election

Sharing his comment, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez remarked, "If people want to talk about members of Congress being overly influenced by a special interest group pushing a wildly unpopular agenda that pushes voters away from Democrats then they should be discussing AIPAC."

The congresswoman made the claims as the Democrats have entered a period of soul-searching after the drubbing at the polls, the outlet noted.

She has also recently blamed Democrat election defeats on "Obama-era insiders" and claimed that her party spent "more time listening to the donor class than working people," as per The Telegraph.

However, according to the outlet, AOC’s claim that support for Israel is unpopular also isn’t accurate. The AIPAC website mentions in its policy section that they support pro-Israel policies that strengthen and expand the US-Israel relationship, combatting terrorism, promoting peace, opposing anti-Israel discrimination, and countering Iran’s nuclear aggression.

Moreover, the AIPAC social media page countered the rep with a "fact check" on what Democratic voters believe is popular, attaching the winning results of AIPAC-backed candidates in Democratic primaries.

The group spent $53 million backing pro-Israel candidates on both sides of the aisle in the 2024 election cycle and boasted that 98% of its endorsees won their general elections on November 5, according to the New York Post.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez accuses Donald Trump of potentially ushering in an era of 'fascism'

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also accused President-elect Donald Trump of potentially ushering in an era of "fascism". She posted a video on social media where she warned that the country was on the brink of a political crisis and suggested that Trump’s victory could lead to authoritarian rule and a crackdown on dissent.

She said, "We are about to enter a political period that will have consequences for the rest of our lives. We cannot give up. We now find ourselves in a time in history that has precedent and we find ourselves, I believe, in a time where there are, let’s say, peers in history of mass movements of people that mobilize to protect one another, in times of fascism and authoritarianism."

She also claimed that the US was "poised to enter" a new era where Trump could use military force against political opponents and invoke fears of government overreach.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed for claiming pro-Israel AIPAC sank Democrats in 2024

Several internet users slammed Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after she blamed the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) for the losses Democrats faced on Election Day.

One social media user wrote on X, "You’re a disgrace," while another added, "Cry harder. You didn’t lose because of AIPAC, you lost because you are incompetent and completely lost touch with reality."

One person mentioned, "If people want to talk about members of Congress being overly antisemitic and pushing voters away from Democrats then they should be discussing AOC," whereas another remarked, "AOC your Jew hatred is showing."

One individual suggested, "Maybe stop blaming Jews for your problems," while another commented, "Funny story, now do Act Blue."
