The actress prefers to attend red carpet events with a friend rather than a partner, as she finds that “some boyfriends tend to mistake a red carpet event as a date, and it’s not a date. It’s a work event.”

"It’s definitely hard to date someone and deal with that whole circus,” she added.
Allison Janney's ideal partner qualities

She doesn’t shy away from listing her deal breakers either, “Yeah. Smoking, alcoholic. Mean-spirited, people that are mean to waiters. I like people to be kind,” she asserted.
“Kind and generous. And they must love dogs. If they don’t love dogs, that’s nope. Can’t. Nope. Pass, swipe, whatever you say," she said.
In 2021, Janney told ET, "I really am this time in my life getting to know who I am and what I want. I’d love to eventually find someone to share my life with but if it doesn’t happen, I’ll be just fine."
