Alyssa Farah Griffin calls Donald Trump Jr's wedding a ‘funeral’ in an awkward moment
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: ‘The View’ co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin accidentally called Donald Trump Jr’s wedding “a funeral” during a recent episode on Tuesday, May 26.
The slip of the tongue happened while the hosts were talking about President Donald Trump skipping his son's wedding to Bettina Anderson, leading a tired Griffin to quickly clear up the mistake by saying, “Honestly, I’m so tired, I have a 3-month-old.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin mixes up wedding and funeral
The hosts of 'The View' were talking about President Trump missing the wedding when Joy Behar joked about Trump's love for fast food. “If they had done the wedding at McDonald’s, maybe he would go," Behar said.
Griffin, who used to work as a White House communications official for Trump, tried to share what she had previously said on television but mixed up her words.
“I oddly enough talked about this on CNN on Friday and I said ‘he should go,’ " Griffin said. "A parent should try to never miss their child’s funeral, or, I’m sorry, oh, God, wedding.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin blames exhaustion for slip-up
Griffin noticed her mistake right away and told the audience she was exhausted from caring for her baby.
“Honestly, I’m so tired, I have a 3-month-old. That was not meant,” Griffin said. Her son, Justin Patrick Jr, was born in February and recently had to stay in the intensive care unit for a major operation.
After correcting herself, Griffin finished her original point about how the public would view the president's absence.
“A parent should never miss a wedding if they’re able to and I actually don’t think people would have criticized if he did that,” she said. “I think you’re much more likely to get criticism for skipping.”
Trump skips Don Jr wedding over government duties
It should be noted that President Donald Trump had already confirmed in a Truth Social post on May 22 that he would not be able to attend his son's wedding due to government responsibilities and ongoing international tensions.
“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr, and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so,” Trump wrote.
He added, “I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, DC, at the White House during this important period of time.”
