NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: 'The View' co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin has recounted how former first lady Jill Biden was "very unhelpful" during an interview with her husband, former President Joe Biden, on 'The View' and stopped him from shutting down "cognitive decline" rumors.

The former president appeared on 'The View' on May 8, where he defended staying in the 2024 election before endorsing former Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee, according to Mediaite.

Biden was diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer, according to a statement from his personal office Sunday, May 18.

During CNN's 'Saturday Table for Five' on May 17, Griffin joined anchor Abby Phillip. During the segment, she was asked about Jill Biden joining her husband for the interview.

'The View' co-host admitted that it played into the "worst assumptions" about him, including that he cannot "finish a sentence", per the outlet.

Giving her reaction about the interview, Griffin said, "I left thinking he definitely could not have done another four years."

Meanwhile, Philip asked, "What did you make of the fact that Jill Biden was there with him?"

Griffin recalled that during the interview, she asked Joe Biden about growing reports suggesting there was a "dramatic decline" in his cognitive abilities while in office.

Biden replied and called the reports wrong. However, Jill stepped in to give a detailed description and said, "Alyssa, one of the things I think is that the people who wrote those books were not in the White House with us and they didn’t see how hard Joe worked every single day."

Regarding Jill, Griffin told Phillip, "I thought it was very unhelpful. I asked the specific question about allegations of his cognitive decline. And he began to answer, and then she jumped in for him."

"And I get it, as a spouse, you want to help your partner, but that was his moment to knock out of the park any fear that he has cognitive decline, and it played into. Basically, the worst assumptions, that he can’t finish sentences and she had to help him out," she added.

Interestingly, the former POTUS' cognitive state while in office has become a hot topic once again amid a new book from CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson titled 'Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again'.

The book revealed that White House officials were actively concerned about Biden amid multiple slip-ups, including not recognizing George Clooney at a fundraiser, per the outlet.

Moreover, the audio of Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur in 2023 also dropped from Axios last week, where the former president appeared confused and spoke in a hoarse voice.

Jill Biden appeared to secretly signal Joe to stop answering risky question

During the 'The View' interview, when Griffin threw out a risky question about reports from Democratic insiders claiming Biden suffered a "dramatic decline in cognitive abilities," the former president answered for a while.

However, he suddenly clammed up mid-response and said, "I’ve talked too long." Following this, Jill took over and completed the answer.

This reportedly raised eyebrows, with theories suggesting that she might have nudged him under the table, kicked him, or sent some kind of signal to stop talking, according to the Daily Mail.

Right from the start of the segment, the former president jogged into the studio in what looked like an obvious attempt to look sprightly.

However, moments later, he reportedly hacked up a massive glob of phlegm that brought his sentence to an uncomfortable halt, per the outlet.

Moreover, there was a mysterious band-aid on Biden’s left hand that further raised curiosity. The 82-year-old had previously been spotted with a bruise in the same spot, sparking theories about infusions or medical treatments meant to keep him upright, the Daily Mail reported.

During the interview, as the discussion turned back to Biden’s mental fitness, he gave an answer that only made things worse.

The former president mumbled, paused, and awkwardly cut himself off, clearly struggling, per the outlet.
