Amanda Kloots says 'death is business' after husband Nick Cordero died due to Covid
During her appearance on SoFi’s 'Richer Lives' podcast, Kloots, the 42-year-old co-host of 'The Talk', shared insights into the financial challenges she faced during her late husband Cordero's hospitalization. Kloots revealed that Cordero spent 95 days in the hospital, heavily reliant on various life-support machines.
She disclosed, "Nick was in the hospital for 95 days. His whole body was being run by machines. The ventilator alone was $3,000 a day… on top of the 20 other machines that were running his body."
She then continued, "When I heard that, I immediately was like, ‘What am I going to do?’ So you can imagine what the total bill was."
Realizing the enormous financial burden, she sought the assistance of a financial advisor to navigate the expenses while ensuring care for herself and their 5-year-old son, Elvis.
Reflecting on her initial disbelief, Kloots admitted, "I never thought I was going to lose my husband. Up until the day he passed away, I really thought we were going to make it. So I don’t think the financial magnitude really really hit me until he passed away and calls were coming in…Unfortunately death is a business."
Kloots recounted receiving a substantial medical bill for Cordero's treatment nearly a year and a half later, "My medical bill for Nick came almost a year and a half later. I got a huge medical bill. Surprise!"
Kloots further shared that she and her husband had never broached the topic of what would happen if one of them were no longer around.
She remarked, "Because you think you’re invincible. You’re in your 40s. You’re like, ‘Nothing’s gonna happen to us. We’re fine. We’ve got time.’ We were just starting our lives."
