WASHINGTON, DC: Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller praised President Donald Trump’s military operation and strategic approach during an interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters on Tuesday, April 14.
His remarks come amid a fragile ceasefire following six weeks of intense fighting and a US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. The United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes on February 28, targeting Iran’s political and military leadership after nuclear negotiations collapsed.
Stephen Miller defends Trump’s Iran blockade strategy
During the interview, Watters remarked that critics had claimed the president lacked a plan to secure the Strait, adding that “it looks like it's going pretty well.” Miller dismissed such concerns, advising against what he described as alarmist reactions.
He stated, "Never listen to a panic in Jesse, You will do very well in life, Ignore the panic ends, right? They were the ones who warned of calamity in Venezuela and ended up being one of the greatest single foreign policy, military and geopolitical maneuvers in world history."
Miller further stated, "What you're watching now in Iran with the implementation of this blockade is the total resetting of the American power dynamic for the next a hundred years."
He emphasized, "President Trump is saying we the United States have the world's not just most powerful military most powerful Navy and whoever controls the seas is able to control the outcomes in any foreign policy showdown and so President Trump has put Iran in a box, He's played the checkmate move.
Miller then argued that in either case, "path Iran chooses America wins if Iran chooses the path of a deal. Then that's great for the world as great for everybody, if Iran chooses the path of economic strangulation by blockade then the world will pass around by new energy routes will be established new supply chains will be established."
He concluded, "Other nations throughout the region throughout the world and especially America will power the world and Iran will become a footnote, So that's the choice Iran has and President Trump has put America into a win-win posture”
Stephen Miller addresses refugee concerns amid Iran conflict
Miller has long voiced strong support for the broader military effort in Iran and also addressed concerns about refugee flows into the US due to the war. Speaking on 'The Ingraham Angle' last month, he stated that there would be no refugee crisis affecting the US, calling it a “promise and a guarantee.”
He contrasted this with the Joe Biden administration’s handling of Afghan refugees under Operation Allies Welcome, which facilitated the entry of nearly 190,000 Afghan nationals between 2021 and 2022, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Miller cited the agency’s claims that individuals admitted included those with criminal backgrounds, arguing that such outcomes resulted from policy decisions that allowed entry through organized transport.
He further stated that refugees enter the US through deliberate transportation, while illegal immigration occurs via the southern border, which he claimed has now been effectively closed.
Meanwhile, the US blockade of Iranian ports has been fully implemented, with US Central Command confirming that maritime trade routes have been entirely cut off.
Commander Brad Cooper stated that the blockade was achieved within 36 hours of Trump’s order, effectively halting all seaborne economic activity.
With more than 90% of Iran’s $109.7 billion annual seaborne trade passing through the Strait of Hormuz, the blockade represents a significant disruption. According to a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, Miad Maleki estimated daily economic losses at approximately $435 million, noting Iran’s lack of viable alternative trade routes.
