WASHINGTON, DC: The conflict between the United States and Iran continues to intensify, with rising military, naval, and economic pressures on both sides. Recently, the US reportedly imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports and the Strait of Hormuz in an effort to restrict Iran’s oil exports and disrupt its maritime trade. Amid this escalating situation, a viral claim emerged suggesting that President Donald Trump declared the Iran war is over. Let’s fact-check the claim.

Claim: Trump told Fox News the Iran war is over

The rumor originated from an X user named OSINTdefender, whose bio states, “Open Source Intelligence Monitor focused on Europe and Conflicts across the World. RT ≠ Endorsement. Want to Support my Work?”

On April 14, the account posted to its 2.1 million followers, claiming, “U.S. President Donald J. Trump tells Fox News that the Iran War is over.” The post was accompanied by an image of Trump clapping alongside US flags.

Within hours, the post gained significant traction, accumulating more than 493K views, 3.8K likes, and numerous comments. Some users questioned its authenticity, asking, “True? Is the war over?” while others appeared to accept it as accurate, with one commenting, “That's AMAZING.” The account also responded with further skepticism, writing, “Any lie or finally a truth? @grok please an update on the war, has US won?”

The viral claim emerged amid ongoing reports of heightened tensions between the United States and Iran, including a continued US blockade of Iranian ports now in its second day. Washington is reportedly increasing pressure on Tehran over control of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global shipments of oil, fertilizer, and other essential commodities.

Separately, Pakistan is attempting to facilitate a second round of US-Iran peace talks after an earlier session in Islamabad ended without an agreement. The broader conflict is now in its seventh week, with a two-week truce set to expire within days. In related diplomatic developments, Lebanese and Israeli officials also held talks in Washington, DC, marking the first direct engagement between the two countries since 1993.

According to several reports, the claim that Trump told Fox News the Iran war is over is false and misleading. President Donald Trump did make statements about the Iran war during an interview on Fox News. However, what he actually said was that he views the war “as very close to over.”

In a clip released Tuesday night, April 14, Trump told Fox Business’s Maria Bartiromo that he sees the conflict with Iran “as very close to over.” During the interview, which Fox says will air Wednesday on 'Mornings with Maria', Bartiromo asked, “You keep saying ‘was,’ is this war over?” Trump responded, “I think it’s close to over, yeah. I mean, I view it as very close to over.”

He further added, “If I pulled up stakes right now, it would take them 20 years to rebuild that country... And we’re not finished, you’ll see what happens. I think they want to make a deal very badly,” referring to Iran.

Even Vice President JD Vance expressed optimism about the Trump administration’s approach. Based on the actual quote, the claim is false and exaggerated.
