LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'American Idol' Season 5 alum Mandisa Lynn Hundley died in April 2024, shocking fans. The Grammy-winning singer's cause of death has been revealed in an autopsy report, according to People.
The contemporary Christian artist died at the age of 47 on April 18 reportedly of the complications of class III obesity and the manner of death was listed as natural.

Per the autopsy report, the artist was found dead at her residence by friends and she “was last known alive approximately three weeks” earlier. Mandisa secured ninth place on 'American Idol' and quickly became a successful contemporary musician, releasing her debut album 'True Beauty' in 2007.
She received praise for the record and her first Grammy nomination for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album. It also peaked at number one on the Top Christian Albums chart. Mandisa went on to release five additional albums. Her 2013 album 'Overcomer' won both Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year and Best Contemporary Christian Music Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards and GMA Dove Awards.
Following her death, Mandisa was honored on an episode of 'American Idol' with a special performance by former contestants Colton Dixon, Danny Gokey and Melinda Doolittle in late April. The trio sang Mary Mary’s 2000 hit 'Shackles (Praise You)' in tribute to the singer, who performed the song on the fifth season of 'American Idol' in 2005.
