WASHINGTON, DC: A new Yahoo/YouGov poll conducted just after Super Bowl LX found that a slight plurality of Americans now say Bad Bunny better represents the United States than Donald Trump, underscoring how the halftime show controversy has taken on broader cultural and political overtones.

More than 1,700 US adults were polled after the Super Bowl from Feb 9–12 and asked their opinions on Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show and whether they approved or disapproved of the ‘DtMF’ singer and his message.

Poll shows support for Bad Bunny performance

The survey revealed stark political fault lines when it came to perceptions of representation.

In the poll, 30 percent of Americans who watched the Super Bowl said they liked Bad Bunny’s halftime performance, while only 8 percent said they disliked it.

Meanwhile, 31 percent of Americans said they approved of Bad Bunny performing entirely in Spanish, with only 11 percent disapproving.

When asked whether they approved of Bad Bunny’s message of unity, 60 percent of American respondents said they approved, while 16 percent said they disapproved.

Bad Bunny tops Trump on representation

Bad Bunny’s halftime presence. the first performance consisting mostly of Spanish-language music. was both celebrated and criticized.

Many supporters saw the show as a vibrant celebration of cultural diversity and unity, while conservative figures, including Trump, described it as an ideological affront.

A screen behind Bad Bunny read, “The Only Thing Stronger Than Hate Is Love,” while the Spanish-language artist proclaimed, “God bless America!”



When asked, “Who better represents America? Bad Bunny or Donald Trump?” more Americans chose the Puerto Rican music superstar. Forty-two percent said Bad Bunny better represents America, while 39 percent chose Trump.

From the moment the artist was announced as the NFL’s selected performer, many conservatives expressed outrage that a Spanish-language artist had been chosen. In response, Turning Point USA, a conservative advocacy group, staged an “alternative” YouTube halftime show with Kid Rock as the headliner.

While it is estimated that Kid Rock’s pre-recorded performance drew 6.1 million concurrent viewers on YouTube, Bad Bunny’s show received around 128.2 million average US viewers. These ratings make the artist, born Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, the fourth most-watched Super Bowl Halftime Show headliner in history.

After being told Bad Bunny’s halftime show concluded with a message reading “The only thing more powerful than hate is love,” 60% approve of that message, and just 16 % disapprove. Democrats overwhelmingly view Bad Bunny favorably, whereas Republicans tend to view him unfavorably.
