Amy Schumer’s playful take on beauty trends

In a video posted to Instagram, Schumer quipped, “Hi, it’s your favorite comedian with no top lip.”

Dressed casually in a blue sweatshirt while driving, she playfully pushed her pointer fingers against her face and reassured her followers, “I want to commit to you that I will never get lip fillers.”

In her lighthearted video, Schumer acknowledged the potential safety concerns of recording while driving, admitting, “Yes, this is completely unsafe to be driving and making a video.”

How Internet trolls led to Amy Schumer's life-changing diagnosis

However, in 2024, the criticism surrounding her facial features unexpectedly led to a crucial health discovery.

In January, she opened up about the experience on the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast with host Alex Cooper.

“A year ago, the internet really came for me,” she shared, referring to the surge of online comments about her swollen face.

Initially, Schumer brushed off the remarks. “I was like, ‘Okay, everybody, like, relax,’” she recalled.

But when medical professionals started weighing in, she realized something might actually be wrong.

“Doctors were chiming in in the comments and they were like, ‘No, no … something’s really up. Your face looks so crazy,’” Schumer said.

After seeking medical advice, she learned that the swelling was due to Cushing syndrome, a condition caused by excessive cortisol levels.

Her diagnosis came in February 2024 and she attributed it to long-term steroid use, according to People.

According to the Mayo Clinic, Cushing syndrome can result from prolonged steroid use and leads to symptoms like weight gain, acne, and a round, swollen face—commonly referred to as “moon face.”

Amy Schumer's mental and physical struggle

Amy Schumer admitted the condition took a toll on her mentally, especially as she was preparing to star in 'Kinda Pregnant.'

“I was feeling really down on myself before I started filming … I was, like, really having trouble figuring out how I was going to star in a movie while I had this going on,” she shared.

Fortunately, she found support in 'Kinda Pregnant' director Lorraine Caffery. “She told me, ‘You know, I think you look f*****g great,’” Schumer recalled. “I just needed one person to just amp me up.”
