LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ana Navarro, co-host of 'The View,' took to Instagram on Thursday, August 14, to urge singer Gloria Gaynor to reject President Donald Trump’s Kennedy Center Honor.

The announcement of this year’s honorees came just a day earlier during a press event at the performing arts center in Washington, DC.

Meanwhile, reports surfaced that Tom Cruise, initially expected to be among the star-studded recipients, declined the honor due to his busy schedule with multiple upcoming projects, though the actor has yet to comment publicly.

In an Instagram post, Ana Navarro shared her experience meeting Gloria Gaynor a few years ago at a concert in Miami.

“A few years ago, I got to briefly meet @gloriagaynor at a concert in Miami. She gifted me a keychain that belted out ‘I Will Survive’ when you pressed it,” Navarro recalled. “Let’s just say, during first Trump term, I pressed it til it ran out of batteries.”

Navarro then commented on Trump’s recent announcement that he had chosen Gaynor to receive a Kennedy Center Honor, which he will be hosting. She recalled, “Yesterday, Trump announced he picked her to receive a Kennedy Center Honor, which he plans to host.”

She said, “Look, the woman is a goddess and deserves all the flowers that come her way. But I wish she wouldn’t accept an award from the hands of a man who has attacked the rights and history of women, people of color and LGBTQ.”

Navarro added, “The gay community in particular helped turn her signature song into an anthem. Trump is a stain on the prestige and significance of the KCH. Don’t do it, Gloria!”

Internet reacts to Ana Navarro on Gloria Gaynor honor

Ana Navarro’s remarks about Gloria Gaynor receiving an honor from Trump sparked a heated debate online, drawing a wide range of reactions.

One user challenged Navarro, saying, “She should address Obama’s Nobel when she speaks of cheapening the award.”

Another commenter criticized women for giving each other poor advice, writing, “Why do Women always give each other the worst advice? Like after a certain point in life, women all secretly hate each other, and want to undermine each other in any way they can.”

An X user shared a sarcastic meme that read, “SHH Yes you are you just aren't aware and need me to whitesplain your oppression for you. You are feeble and lower than me and need me to be your savior. You cannot get by without me."

A social media user defended Trump, pointing out, “Navarro claims Trump is anti-gay, yet Trump appointed Richard Grennel to oversee the Kennedy Center. Ric is an all-star, a diplomat, a savvy businessman who happens to be gay. Hopefully Gloria Gaynor will accept her deserved honor and ignore Ana.”

Another user praised Gaynor, saying, “Gloria Gaynor is a legend. Anna needs to stop being so salty and mean.”

Some commenters took a more mocking tone, with one writing, “Says the woman who will never win a Kennedy Center honor. Lol.”

Another added, “That would be a huge mistake. Anna Navarro has nothing to lose, so it’s pretty disgusting of her to deny this honor to Gloria Gaynor."

During a press conference on Wednesday, August 14, at the Kennedy Center, President Donald Trump announced this year’s honorees for the prestigious awards ceremony. Alongside legendary singer Gloria Gaynor, he revealed that actor Sylvester Stallone, rock band Kiss, actor and comedian Michael Crawford, and country music star George Strait would also be recognized.

Trump is set to host the 2025 Kennedy Center Honors this December, an event that celebrates individuals who have made outstanding contributions to American culture through the performing arts.

Earlier this year, in February, Trump announced that he had been “unanimously” elected chair of the Kennedy Center’s board. The announcement followed a contentious reshuffling in which Trump replaced several board members appointed by his predecessor, Joe Biden.
