Mario Cantone reveals why he reads mean reviews on ‘Today’ Show

Mario Cantone was warmly welcomed by Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager on a segment of ‘Today with Hoda and Jenna’.

As Kotb and Hager, referring to a Vulture article, called Cantone the “MVP of Season 2”, Kotb then asked the actor, “Do you look at those reviews often?”

Cantone replied, “I read everything. It’s called flooding, because then it doesn’t affect you. I read everything.”

Hager chimed in asking, “Mean things too?”

The star replied, “I am lucky. I have to say I’m lucky. I don’t get too many mean things, I get some. I read comments, I read reviews, I read everything. I am not afraid because then it toughens you up.”

He continued, “I want to tell you something, social media, I want to choke it. I really want to choke it!”

“And you can’t say what you want to say, you know. When I go off on Twitter and say what I want to say, you’ll know that I have six months to live, okay?” Cantone said hilariously.

Cantone then talked about his routine, revealing, “I intermittent live. I sleep till two in the afternoon so that when I get up, I just eat.”

Kotb asked, “What time do you go to bed?”

He responded, “I am not a partier, believe me. Would I look this good?”

Cantone admitted to staying up till “maybe one, two.” He then explained his night routine, saying he is usually “hanging out with the husband and watching TV, or we're going to dinner and come home. It depends, you know, it depends on the night. Some nights you go to sleep early, some nights you go to sleep late.”

Hager interrupts asking, “Have you retired?” Cantone replied, “As of 2-3 years ago, ‘I’m done!’ as my mother would say, ‘Never again!’ You know, I can’t do it anymore. I go to restaurants. During Covid, I cooked 352 nights.”

Kotb asked, “What about your husband?” Cantone said, “My husband cooks too but I cook more. He was Zoom working. So, I cooked a lot.” The actor just seemed too tired of cooking to do so for the holidays this time around.
