WASHINGTON, DC: Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe cast doubt on Ghislaine Maxwell's interview with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.

The transcript and audio of her interview, released on Friday, August 22, showed Maxwell discussing Jeffrey Epstein’s death, her ties to Donald Trump, and claims surrounding a so-called "client list."

Andrew McCabe says Ghislaine Maxwell’s answers are to seek relief

Andrew McCabe said on CNN's 'Erin Burnett OutFront' that the exchange between Ghislaine Maxwell and Todd Blanche did not seem ordinary.

“It's so suspicious. When you listen to the tapes, you get the sense that Ghislaine Maxwell went into that room knowing what information she had to deliver to get their attention and to get their approval and to get some sort of benefit that she is pursuing from the administration,” McCabe stated.

He added that Blanche entered the room prepared for what he wanted to hear.

“And the administration, in the form of Todd Blanche, went into that room knowing what information he needed, which was what she was going to say about Donald Trump‘s involvement or non-involvement and both sides delivered to each other’s satisfaction,” McCabe claimed.

Ghislaine Maxwell says Epstein died by suicide, denies Trump link

The longtime Jeffrey Epstein associate claimed in the Justice Department interview that the disgraced financier died by suicide in prison and rejected speculation about a "client list."

She also denied reports from The Wall Street Journal that she received a birthday card from Trump for Epstein’s 50th and said that she never saw the president in "any inappropriate setting in any way."

“Ghislaine Maxwell, unprompted, spoke glowingly of the president, referred to him only in the most respectful term, which you know, is obviously the way that he prefers to be treated,” said McCabe, who served under both Barack Obama and Donald Trump.

Andrew McCabe questions DOJ's handling of Ghislaine Maxwell interview

McCabe argued that the conditions around the meeting and release of records were highly unusual.

“Nothing about this process was conventional or normal, but it does seem that both the administration and Ghislaine Maxwell got exactly what they wanted from it,” McCabe said.

After Maxwell’s meeting with Blanche in July, she was transferred to a federal prison in Texas with about 600 inmates, most serving time for nonviolent offenses.

McCabe also pointed out that no FBI agents or investigators were present to serve as witnesses during Maxwell interview.

“It’s recorded and then immediately released to the public, which is not something you would ever do with the testimony of somebody who you were considering turning into a cooperator,” the former deputy director of the FBI said.

Internet reacts as Andrew McCabe casts doubt on Ghislaine Maxwell's DOJ interview

Online reactions poured in as Andrew McCabe weighed in on Ghislaine Maxwell's interview with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.

An X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, “Says one of the most corrupt FBI agents of all time. Lock him up,” while another said, “What did you think it would be. She is not going to implicate herself. Unless there is proof of more, it’s done. Dems are losing one of their talking points. So sad.”

Others doubted Maxwell’s claims, with one saying, “That interview was ridiculous. The people were looking for real evidence of additional criminals... with proof. Her word is dirt.”

Some users took a lighter tone. “Really, I believed every word, honestly,” one wrote.

Another added, “Ya think? They’re dangling a pardon in front of her. Can’t trust a single thing she says.”

One more tweeted, “She’ll end up getting out of jail and will go on a book tour. Trump might even give her the medal of freedom.”
