WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Biggs faced a wave of backlash on social media after he claimed that former President Donald Trump's recent felony conviction in New York was the result of a rigged trial.

Biggs, a Republican from Arizona, made the statement following an online comment that suggested jury corruption in Trump's case.

Biggs, who had been ordered to testify in front of a grand jury as part of Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes' investigation into the events following the November 2020 election, took to social media on Friday, June 7 to express his support for Trump according to Raw Story.

"Donald Trump’s trial was rigged from the start," he wrote.



 

The controversy began with a comment on the New York court system's Facebook page by a person named Michael Anderson.

The comment implied that the jury in Trump's trial was compromised. "Thank you for all your hard against the MAGA crazies! My cousin is a juror on Trump’s criminal case and they're going to convict him tomorrow according to her. Thank you New York courts!!!!" the comment read as per screenshots circulated online.

This comment caused an uproar until Anderson admitted it was fabricated. "Take it easy... I'm a professional shitposter."

He defined "shitposting" as the act of posting content of "aggressively, ironically, and trollishly poor quality" online.

Despite Anderson's admission, Biggs did not update his post or acknowledge the fabrication.

Andy Biggs faces backlash for his past for seeking pardon from Donald Trump

Under Biggs' post, social media users were quick to criticize him, referencing his past actions.

In 2022, Biggs denied seeking a pardon from then-President Trump for his involvement in the January 6 assault on the US Capitol.

One user responded to Biggs' recent post with, "Pardon me?" and included screenshots of Anderson's admission.



 

Another user wrote, "Andy Biggs asked Donald Trump for a Presidential Pardon. He's also a sorry-a** son of a b***h."



 

Others questioned why Biggs sought a pardon, implying he must have committed a crime: "Andy Biggs needs investigated as to why he asked for a Pardon. What crimes did Andy Biggs commit???"

"PARDON seeking andy biggs is LYING. Why do you ask for a pardon unless you think you've committed a crime. Wheres the EVIDENCE CRIMINAL? CONVICTED FELON donald," another user commented.



 



 

Internet says Andy Biggs has no business working in Congress 

Social media users did not hold back in their responses. One wrote, "According to Trump everything is rigged. Well I’d say I don’t see it and don’t believe Trump the traitor."

Another criticized Biggs' intelligence and judgment, saying, "If you don't know that's an absolute lie, you have no business working in congress."

Mocking the credibility of the initial Facebook comment, one user asked, "Why? Because some rando on Facebook claimed their cousin was a Nigerian Prince on the jury?"

Conservative attorney and anti-Trump activist George Conway wrote, "You are a lying idiot," in response to Biggs' post.
