PHOENIX, ARIZONA: Rudy Giuliani was served papers for his indictment in connection with the alleged plot to rig the 2020 election results in Arizona on Friday, May 17, as announced by the state's Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes.

Mayes' announcement came less than two hours after the former Donald Trump attorney had made fun of her on social media for failing to deliver his indictment. Giuliani received the notice while celebrating his upcoming 80th birthday in Palm Beach, Florida, as per NBC News

Rudy Giuliani served papers in Arizona 'fake electors' scheme

In a now-deleted post on X (formerly Twitter), Giuliani taunted Arizona authorities, writing, "If Arizona authorities can’t find me by tomorrow morning; 1. They must dismiss the indictment; 2. They must concede they can’t count votes."

His Friday, May 17, post included a photo of him and six others posing for a selfie.

About an hour and a few minutes later, Attorney General Mayes responded to Giuliani’s post, noting, "The final defendant was served moments ago. @RudyGiuliani, nobody is above the law."

The ex-Trump lawyer, who will turn 80 on May 28, was enjoying an early birthday celebration hosted by Caroline Wren, an adviser to Arizona US Senate candidate Kari Lake, on the night he was served, according to his social media activity.

In a statement to NBC News, Ted Goodman, a spokesperson for Giuliani, said, "The mayor was unfazed by the decision to try and embarrass him during his 80th birthday party. He enjoyed an incredible evening with hundreds of people who love him from all walks of life and we look forward to full vindication soon."

Others charged in the "fake electors" case are further along in the legal process. John Eastman, another ex-Trump lawyer, entered a not-guilty plea on Friday morning to charges pertaining to an alleged plot to overturn the 2020 election results in Arizona.

Eleven more defendants are likely to be arraigned on Tuesday.

When it comes to the allegation of trying to overturn the 2020 election results, Giuliani has encountered other controversies outside the Arizona "fake electors" scheme. The ex-Trump lawyer was hit with a penalty of $148 million for defaming two Georgia election workers.

Internet reacts as Rudy Giuliani is served with indictment papers in Arizona 'fake electors' scheme

A netizen wrote, "There is no such thing as fake electors, only alternate electors," and another added, "Guiliani is a national disgrace and embarrassment. He is reaping what he sows."

"People can’t hold two opposing thoughts in their head at the same time. He did a solid job as NY AG and a great job on 9/11. He also became Trump’s flunky and conducted himself disgracefully if not criminally. Happy 80th Rudy, welcome to the real world of average people where actions have consequences," shared a person.

Someone else opined, "Giuliani will be treated like all of the other of Trump's henchmen," while one more remarked, "Rudy has made some really horrible decisions lately."
