Angelina Jolie proclaims she wouldn't choose to be an actress today as Hollywood is 'not a healthy place'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: If Angelina Jolie were beginning her career in the entertainment world today, she claims she would not be an actress.
That was just one of the insights the celebrity revealed in a recently released Wall Street Journal Magazine interview.
Angelina Jolie opens up on 'rebuilding her life'
In a piece headed "Angelina Jolie Is Rebuilding Her Life," she discussed everything from "healing" following her breakup with Brad Pitt to her future goals.
She also talked about how she felt about the community that gave her fame. Jolie said of Hollywood, "I grew up in quite a shallow place. Of all the places in the world, Hollywood is not a healthy place. So you seek authenticity," as reported by ABC7.
Jolie, who is actor Jon Voight's daughter, stated to the magazine, "Because I grew up around Hollywood, I was never very impressed with it. I never bought into it as significant or important."
Jolie most likely wouldn't become an actress if she had to choose to enter the business right now.
She said, with the caveat that perhaps she would have done theater, but not Hollywood, "I wouldn't be an actress today. When I was starting out, it wasn't as much of an expectation to be as public, to share so much."
Angelina Jolie's divorce from Brad Pitt affected her career
She filed for divorce from Pitt, with whom she shares six children, seven years ago, which is partially to blame for the scrutiny the family has faced. That, and the nasty custody battle that has not ended even now.
As a result, Jolie has reduced her workload and spent most of these years at home with her kids.
Angelina and Pitt were Hollywood's 'power couple' till marriage broke down
She said of her family, "We had to heal. There are things we needed to heal from." She is aware of the curiosity about her existence. She and Pitt were a popular pair, touted as Hollywood's "power couple" at one point.
Jolie said, "Since I was young, people liked the part of me that's pretty tough and maybe a bit wild. That's the part that I think people enjoy."
Jolie added, "I'm not the one [who] you want to hear about my pain or my sadness. You know, that's not entertaining."
The humanitarian, who feels equally at home at a camp for refugees as she does on a film set, stated that she eventually intends to relocate from Los Angeles to Cambodia, and spend more time with her family.
Jolie said, "It's part of what happened after my divorce. I lost the ability to live and travel as freely. I will move when I can."
