Angelina Jolie reveals Maria Callas' character has a lot of pain
Angelina Jolie, 49, who portrays the renowned soprano Maria Callas in the biopic, revealed that the character has a "lot of pain."
The movie star who has been in a bitter court battle with ex-husband Brad Pitt, channeled it in front of her children on the set.
"They've of course seen me go through a lot of things, but they hadn't experienced me expressing a lot of the pain that usually a parent hides from a child," the actress told BBC.
"So they were there to witness some of that, but then we would hug or they would bring me cups of tea," Jolie shared her children's heartwarming gestures towards her.
She added that it was "a new way" of finding out how to be honest with her children about her feelings "in an even greater way."
Jolie's comeback movie has reportedly created a buzz that it could lead her to an Oscar after it dropped on Netflix on December 11.
Angelina Jolie on feeling lonely and finding connection with Maria Callas
Angelina Jolie's latest emotional revelation comes just days after she opened up about feeling lonely amid her bitter court battle with ex-husband Brad Pitt, with whom she split eight years ago.
Jolie accused Pitt of abuse and they are in the middle of an acrious legal battle over their French vineyard.
"I have my children I love but as an adult I'm often alone, I find myself identifying with the solitude and loneliness she has," the 'Maleficent' star told The Sun on Saturday, December 15, referring to the trait she shares with character Callas in the biopic.
"I also haven't quite figured out how to live life in a way where I'm on my own, maybe a lot of artists feel that we're in an open space as a person," adding, “We don’t quite settle. So it leaves us in a strange way sometimes.”
Angelina Jolie took 7 months to learn singing for 'Maria' role
Angelina Jolie was trained for seven months to learn singing for the role in 'Maria', which she described as "very physically demanding."
Jolie told BBC it was "challenging in many ways," adding, "when the opera classes began, what it requires with your breathwork and your body and just the force of what you push through yourself, it's just a very different physicality."
"It was probably one of the areas in my life that I was hesitant," she said. Despite the difficulty, she seemed to have enjoyed trying something new and challenging.
"One of the greatest privileges of being an actor is you often are supported by a crew to try something and explore something you've never done and this certainly was most challenging," she said.
