Angelina Jolie will be devastated by ‘Maria’ Oscar snub as it proves 'Hollywood is Team Brad': Insiders
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Angelina Jolie is feared to feel “devastated” after her passion project ‘Maria’ did not land any Oscar nomination for the actress.
The 49-year-old actress starred in the role of the famous Greek-American soprano Maria Callas, for which she spent months learning to sing opera. Jolie said the opera singer’s pain felt “personal to me” as the mother-of-six channeled her anguish in perfecting the character.
The Oscar snub came at the heels of the conclusion of the actress' long divorce battle with her ex-husband Brad Pitt last month, leading several insiders to speculate “Hollywood is Team Brad” after all.
Angelina Jolie will feel ‘devastated’ at Oscar snub after pouring her heart into ‘Maria’
Angelina Jolie, who though was given a nod by the Golden Globes for Best Actress, did not receive a nomination from the Academy of Motion Pictures, which revealed its contenders on Thursday, January 23.
Speaking to Page Six, a senior award source shared, “Angelina will be devastated … look at all the press she did for the film — she wanted to get nominated.”
“She did Jimmy Fallon, her first late-night show in over a decade,” continued the insider, before pointing out, “She even went to the Gotham awards. She did all these magazine covers.”
Another insider, on the other hand, claimed that Jolie’s Oscar snub boiled down to her contentious divorce battle with Brad Pitt.
Reflecting on the fact that the ‘Maleficent’ star was nominated for the Golden Globes but not by the SAG Awards and Oscars, the source shared, “This just shows that Hollywood is Team Brad.”
“The Globes showed that the foreign press loves her, but that’s not Hollywood. Nobody was going to go against Brad and give Angelina a vote … people just love Brad,” claimed the insider.
Another source further added that while Jolie poured her heart and soul into her acting comeback project ‘Maria’, the Oscar snub “wasn’t great for Angelina – or Netflix [which produced the film].”
Cynthia Ervo and Demi Moore are among 2025 Oscars nominees
While Hollywood is buzzing with the speculations of the decisive hold of Team Brad over the Oscar nominations, another well-placed source claimed to the outlet, “The divorce is done, and yes, politics do come into play a little alongside the films and the performances.”
“But the fact is that there are a lot of first-time nominees shows that we still have a healthy industry,” shared the source.
In the list released by the Academy on Thursday, the Best Actress nominations went to Mikey Madison for ‘Anora’, Fernanda Torres for ‘I’m Still Here’, Demi Moore for ‘The Substance’, Karla Sofía Gascon for ‘Emilia Perez’ and Cynthia Erivo for ‘Wicked’.
Jolie’s ‘Maria’ received one nomination in the Best Cinematography Award as the film’s Edward Lachman bagged the coveted nomination.
Though the ‘Mr and Mrs Smith’ star’s performance in ‘Maria’ was not recognized by the Oscars this year, she is an Academy Award winner nonetheless, after previously being honored with the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for 'Girl, Interrupted' in 2000. She was also nominated for the Best Actress category for ‘Changeling’ in 2009.
