Protest against the Iranian regime erupts in DC

Thousands gathered near Capitol Hill on Saturday, May 16, as the “Free Iran” march in Washington, DC, called for regime change in Iran.

The protestors were waving the green, white, and red Iranian flags as large crowds marched behind a massive yellow banner reading, 'IRAN: Support Maryam Rajavi’s Provisional Government for a Democratic Republic Toward Peace and Freedom.'

Many of the protestors wore yellow hats and shirts while carrying flags associated with the National Council of Resistance of Iran and other Iranian opposition groups.

The placards carried by protestors bore slogans like 'Stop Executions in Iran' and 'No Shah No Mullahs', underscoring that the Iranian population neither supports the current regime nor a return of the monarchy.

The march took place as Iranian American activists and opposition groups gathered in Washington to pressure US officials and world leaders to speak out against executions of political prisoners and the Iranian government’s crackdown on dissent inside Iran.

Tech leaders gather at Uber HQ to discuss 'future of Iran'

Iranian entrepreneurs, engineers, and investors gathered at the headquarters of Uber in San Francisco on Saturday for the 'Tech X Future of Iran' summit, an event focused on rebuilding Iran in the event of the fall of the current regime in Tehran.

Videos shared online by entrepreneur Nima Yamini showed businessman Shervin Pishevar speaking to a packed audience beneath a giant screen displaying the lion-and-sun Iranian flag alongside the words “Tech X Future of IRAN.”

“First of all, I want to open with a moment of silence for our great Iranians who have lost their lives for a freedom that they wouldn’t even face,” Pishevar told attendees before asking the crowd to observe silence.

Earlier, the Foreign Minister of Iran Abbas Araghchi warned that the US would face growing economic consequences from its “war of choice” on Iran.

Writing a post on X, Abbas Araghchi said that the US would be forced to bear the cost of war with Tehran, adding that “Americans are told that they must absorb rocketing costs.”

“Put aside gas price hike and stock market bubble. Real pain begins when US debt and mortgage rates start to jump," he added. "This was all avoidable."
