WASHINGTON, DC: Democrat Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hit out at President Donald Trump, alleging that his administration targets women and applies double standards in handling misconduct by men and women in its ranks.
The congresswoman said Trump appears to be firing women only, while misconduct by men is being rewarded.
AOC says Trump only seems to have the capability to fire female secretaries
In an interview with Pablo Manriquez on Thursday, April 23, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took on Donald Trump, saying that he appears to be after female secretaries only.
When the reporter asked, "Who do you think the next person Trump fires should be?" the Democrat said, “Is he out of women? That seems to be his pattern right now. Trump only seems to have the capability to fire female secretaries.”
“If you’re a man in the Trump administration, it seems that they reward misconduct — hard to tell. They don’t seem to have a rhyme or a reason. Unless it has to do with the [Jeffrey] Epstein files,” she added.
Sarah McBride demands dismissal of Pete Hegseth
Rep Sarah McBride (D-DE) struck a similar note to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, predicting that next on the chopping block was Tulsi Gabbard.
While she said Trump’s entire staff deserves to be fired, she especially demanded the dismissal of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
"I’m supporting impeachment of Pete Hegseth because obviously right now we are engaged in a reckless war of choice that he was a primary driver of," McBride said. "But we know this president. He only fires women, so my guess is Tulsi Gabbard."
Trump fired Pam Bondi and Kristi Neom, among others
Donald Trump's second administration has seen a series of staffing shake-ups. Several officials, both men and women, have been removed from their posts.
Pam Bondi was removed from her role as Attorney General amid concerns over her handling of key legal matters like the Epstein files. Kristi Noem was ousted as the Secretary of Homeland Security following disagreements over immigration enforcement strategy.
On Monday, a White House spokesperson announced that Lori Chavez-DeRemer will be leaving her position as Trump's Labor Secretary and "take a position in the private sector."
The most recent dismissal occurred on Wednesday, when the Secretary of Defense fired Navy Secretary John Phelan over the slow implementation of shipbuilding reform and friction with senior leadership of the Pentagon.
His dismissal was “effective immediately,” and Hegseth informed him about his firing before the department’s spokesperson announced it on X (formerly Twitter).
“On behalf of the Secretary of War and Deputy Secretary of War, we are grateful to Secretary Phelan for his service to the Department and the United States Navy,” Chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell wrote in an X post.
