Ariana Grande's fans heartbroken as she looks dejected after Cynthia Erivo accidentally snubs her

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo recently concluded one of the most emotional promotional tours ever. However, a clip from the ‘Wicked’ stars’ promotional interview recently made its way to the internet, leaving fans heartbroken. 

Grande and Erivo sat for numerous interviews and walked on the red carpets where they repeatedly showed they were perfectly in tune with each other’s emotions. 

However, the clip that recently went viral showed a moment when the two stars’ emotions were out of sync —at least for a moment.

During the Q&A session for 'Wicked' in New York on November 14, 2024, Ariana Grande - who was already looking emotional - tried reaching out and holding onto Cynthia Erivo’s hand. However, Erivo, who did not realize the Nickelodeon star’s advent, removed her hand, leaving Grande feeling dejected. 

As soon as the moment went viral on the internet, fans took to social media to express that they felt bad for Grande. 

This was, however, in stark contrast to an interview from November, when a similar incident happened, and Grande reached out for Cynthia Erivo's hand during an emotional moment. 

During the interview with journalist Tracy E Gilchrist, where she opened up about the movie’s song, ‘Defying Gravity', the two stars shared a touching moment. At one point, Gilchrist said, “I’ve seen this week, people are taking the lyrics of ‘Defying Gravity’ and really holding space with that and feeling power in that," per BuzzFeed.

To which Erivo responded, “Uh, I didn’t know that that was happening.” before adding, “That’s really powerful, that’s what I wanted.”

At that point, Grande nodded approvingly and reached over to hold Erivo's pointer finger, which she grasped throughout the exchange.

In several interviews during their promotional tour, the stars shared that physical touch, which was a meaningful way for them to communicate, with Erivo explaining that Grande required physical touch for comfort when she felt overwhelmed.

The internet grieved with Ariana Grande as they said they would have an "emotional meltdown" if something similar happened to them. 

One of the social media users said, "The way she moved it back .. SOMEONE GRAB IT 😭."

"I'd have a 2 day emotional meltdown if that happened to me (," said someone else while relating to Grande's experience. 

Another user added, "I watched this and they didn't hold hands for the entire q&a I know she was dying inside."

"It seems like cynthia thought ari’s hand was there and went to grab it but when she realised it wasn’t there she pulled it back. the timing just killed them 😭," explained another user.

"Wait- this is actually so sad lmfaooooo, but Ik it wasn’t intentional," explained another fan.

Another social media user penned, "When she put her hand out Ari thought she wanted to hold her, she was more embarrassed than anything else."

"It's crazy how clear you can see her disappointment, then redirecting her emotions so quickly, but so heart breaking," added another user. 

Another user noted, "They've been doing this so much that it became a reflex for her."
