WASHINGTON, DC: Sen Ted Cruz (R-Texas) joined Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo to claim that the Republican Party had shed its image of representing the affluent class and turned into a party of the commoners, on Sunday, June 16.

He credited the leadership of former President Donald Trump for the change, saying that the presumptive GOP nominee's push to exempt tips from taxes has led many workers to switch their support to red.

Ted Cruz's statements on GOP catering to the working class

"Today's Republican Party has changed," the Senator told Bartiromo. "The old conventional wisdom used to be that Republicans are the party of the rich, and Democrats are the party of the poor and the working class – that has been turned on its head today."

"Democrats are the party of rich coastal elites, and Republicans are the party of working-class men and women, blue-collar workers."

Weighing on Trump's push for tax exemption on tips, Cruz shared that he intended to soon introduce legislation to exempt tips from federal income tax.

Citing the example of his father, Rafael Cruz, who emigrated from Cuba in 1957 and went from a job washing dishes to working for IBM, owning a business and becoming a pastor, the Senator said, "The people who are working waiting tables and in tip professions, whether you're a golf caddy or taxi cab driver, those are often people that are starting to climb the economic ladder. Helping people climb that ladder is hugely important."

Ted Cruz takes a dig at Democratic Party

Cruz took a swipe at the incumbent Joe Biden for attending a star-studded Hollywood fundraiser on Saturday, where George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Barbra Streisand were among those present.

According to Fox News, the event took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and raised nearly $30 million for the campaign of the presumptive Democratic nominee, at a time when Trump is seen gaining grounds in polls in battleground states.

"That's his base… that's who the Democratic Party is fighting for, environmental billionaires in California. That's who they care about. People who are in bed with China. That's who the Democrats care about," slammed Cruz.

"But if you're actually talking about a steelworker, if you're talking about a taxi cab driver, if you're talking about a waiter or waitress, the Democratic Party long ago abandoned those workers," he added.

Internet slams Ted Cruz's comments

"Yeah, Republicans have always been on the side of workers......BWAAAAAAAAHAHHAHAHAHHA Seriously, stop lying!" a user reacted to Cruz's statements on the social media platform X.

"Lol coming from a rich white guy not saying much," wrote another.

"Translation: 'We’re really good at appealing to gullible, propaganda-primed people via emotional non-issues, to the point where they’ll vote against their own interests,'" mocked a third.

"As usual more lies," jibed a fourth user.

"Cruz is full of it. Republicans never do anything for the blue collard workers. They never have," commented a fifth.
