Ashanti announces pregnancy and engagement to rapper Nelly on social media, fans say 'happy for them'

The musicians are eagerly anticipating their first child together, as confirmed by the 'Foolish' singer on her Instagram.

On Wednesday, April 17, she treated fans to a glimpse of her pre-show routine in a video. In the footage, the 43-year-old songstress is seen getting ready for a performance, with her mother Tina Douglas asking her how much more time she needs to prepare.

Ashanti humorously surprises her mother with a witty response, saying, "Uh, I'm gonna need about nine months."

In her interview with Essence, the R&B songstress delighted fans by announcing her engagement to Nelly as well.

"This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation," Ashanti told the outlet.

"Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiance, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience."

Nelly and Ashanti reconciled in 2015 

In September, the rapper confirmed that he and Ashanti have rekindled their relationship on the ‘Boss Moves with Rasheeda show.’

He admitted that the move "surprised both of us."

"It wasn't anything that we planned. We both were pretty much doing what we do,” Nelly revealed.

“But sometimes, being separate, you understand one another more. You could be like, 'Well yo, let me exactly see maybe what they see.'"

"We all can be defensive sometimes in our own relationships. We know we wrong but we going to stand on it, you know what I mean? But we all a victim to that."

Ashanti and Nelly began their romantic journey in 2003. Despite facing challenges in their relationship, they parted ways in 2013. However, their bond proved resilient, and they found their way back to each other in 2015, reigniting their love affair.

Nelly is a proud father to his son Cornell III (known as Tre), who is 21 years old, and his daughter, Chanelle (affectionately called Nana), who is 26.
