LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a recent tweet that sparked excitement among late-night enthusiasts, Seth Meyers, the charismatic host of 'Late Night with Seth Meyers' teased his audience with a playful challenge.

His tweet, which read, “Attention Jackals: @sethmeyers returns to #LNSM on Monday, January 8. In the meantime, what’s your favorite of the 90 episodes of #Corrections? Playlist,” served as an invitation for viewers to engage and reminisce about their preferred moments from the 'Corrections' segment.

From online quirk to a fan-fueled phenomenon

The genesis of 'Corrections' traces back to the pandemic era when Meyers and his team stumbled upon a distinctive format that encapsulated the essence of the show's free-spirited nature.

Initially conceived as an online-only feature, this segment found Meyers humorously addressing and correcting errors from his weekly shows based on viewer-submitted comments on YouTube.

What began as a platform to rectify mistakes evolved into an inside joke, fostering a unique bond between Meyers and his dedicated fan base.

He confessed that the segment was initially crafted to amuse his executive producer, Mike Shoemaker. Over time, it evolved into a delightful surprise element aimed at Shoemaker that organically transformed into something much larger.

“It’s like paying homage to that time we were gone,” Meyers told TheWrap during a recent interview. “And it’s also not just for us. I think that we weren’t the only people that were worried about the audience coming back. I think there was a large number of people who watch our show at home who also didn’t want them to come back and who liked the lo-fi feel of [the at-home shows].”

Meyers shed light on the unexpected journey of 'Corrections'. “The whole goal of ‘Corrections’ is to surprise Shoemaker. That’s how it started, and it’s grown into something else.”

The segment's unforeseen growth led to the emergence of a positive and supportive community within the YouTube comments section.

Meyers expressed his pleasant surprise at witnessing the delightful response from viewers, acknowledging the unforeseen camaraderie that blossomed around 'Corrections'.

A refreshing respite and Meyers' writing process

Amid the politically charged content that often dominates 'Late Night with Seth Meyers', 'Corrections' stands out as a breath of fresh air, offering a whimsical conclusion to the week's episodes.

Meyers emphasized that the segment provides a reprieve from political discourse, infusing a playful silliness that serves as a palate cleanser for viewers before the weekend.

“It’s obviously never about politics and it’s always about silliness,” Meyers added. “And I think for us, it’s that palate cleanser before we head out for the weekend. And I’m always very touched when I read people say it’s the first thing they watch on Friday morning. Because the comments on ‘A Closer Look,’ obviously, often are about what we’re talking about in the news."

"Those are also fans of the show, but many times they are justifiably upset, whereas ‘Corrections,’ I feel like we all kind of know why we’re there. And it’s a good group of people to hang out with," he further said.

Moreover, Meyers revealed an intriguing behind-the-scenes fact: he pens every episode of 'Corrections' in secrecy, keeping the script hidden from Shoemaker and the show's other writers and producers until he unveils it live on-air.
