Aubrey Plaza welcomes first child with partner Christopher Abbott

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Aubrey Plaza is now a mother. The actress has reportedly welcomed her first child, a baby girl, with her partner, Christopher Abbott. According to reports, Plaza gave birth in the last week of July.

But on Sunday, August 9, Plaza was spotted out and about with her newborn in New York City.

It has been reported that the new mother and her baby were leaving Abbott’s final performance in Broadway's ‘Death of a Salesman.’

The ‘White Lotus’ star kept it casual in a black tank top, blue jeans, and black sunglasses. Her baby's face was not visible as Plaza carried the infant wrapped in a blanket and wearing a beanie. 

The sighting comes a few months after PEOPLE reported in April that Plaza was expecting her first child. Citing an insider, the publication said that “it was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year. They feel very blessed.”

The 42-year-old actress was previously married to the late director, Jeff Baena, who died in January 2025. However, the couple had separated four months before his death.

Following the tragedy, Plaza reportedly opened up about her grief on Amy Poehler's ‘Good Hang’ podcast.

“Right in this very very present moment, I feel happy to be with you. Overall, I’m here and I’m functioning,” the comedian shared in August last year.

The ‘Parks and Recreation’ alum further compared her grief to the film ‘The Gorge,’ in which two snipers are tasked with protecting a gorge without knowing what lies inside.

“That’s what my grief feels like or what grief could be like. At all times, there’s, like, a giant ocean of just awfulness that’s just right there and I can see it,” Plaza explained at the time, adding, “Sometimes I just want to dive into it and be in it. And sometimes I look at it and sometimes I just try to get away from it, but it’s always there."

She also expressed her gratitude to the friends who helped keep her grounded.

“A group of my women friends … we have, like, a text chain and we do Zooms and trips and those girls make me laugh really, really hard. We’ve all known each other for so long. That’s the best thing that makes me laugh. My funny friends,” she said.

Following Baena's death, Plaza and his family released a joint statement, saying, “This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”
